Hanover, NH - Junior Alyssa Parrella posted a game-high eight points on six goals and two assists but it wasn't enough as the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team could not recover from an early seven-goal deficit in falling to Dartmouth, 16-12, on Tuesday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field. The Pride trailed, 7-0, after seven minutes of action before eventually closing the gap to 13-12 with 6:26 left in the second half. The loss ends Hofstra's short two-game win streak as the Pride falls to 6-4. Dartmouth improved to 5-3 with the win. After the Big Green's game-opening run, Hofstra would finally get on the board as Parrella scored at the 21:37 mark. The Pride would still trail by seven, 10-3, with 2:27 left in the half before Parrella scored again and junior Alexa Mattera found the back of the net with 34 seconds left in the opening half to close the gap to five goals at the break. Hofstra scored twice in the first six minutes of the second stanza, with goals from Parrella and sophomore Arianna Esposito, to make it a three-goal game with 24:35 remaining in regulation. Kathryn Giroux would push the lead back to four goals (13-9) for Dartmouth with 13:41 left before Hofstra made one more strong push. Mattera would would start a quick 3-0 scoring run for the Pride that included a pair of goals from Parrella to make it 13-12 with just over six minutes left. That would be as close as the Pride could get, though, as Dartmouth ended any hopes of a Hofstra comeback with a trio of late goals. Mattera and Esposito each finished with two goals for the Pride, which also got eight a career-high eight draw controls from sophomore Katie Whelan. Freshman Jess Smith and sophomore Shannon Boyle each had four ground balls, while freshman Erin Tierney led the Pride with three caused turnovers. Kierra Sweeney had seven points on five goals and two assists for Dartmouth, which also got five points (three goals, two assists) from Ellie Carson. Hofstra is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Columbia for a 7 p.m. contest. NOTES - Hofstra is now 1-2 all-time against Dartmouth. - Parrella moved into third place all-time at Hofstra in goals. She now has 152, passing Corrine Gandolfi (148 from 2007-10). - Parrella also moved into fourth place all-time in points at Hofstra. She now has 212, passing Kathleen McPike (206 from 1998-2001) and Gandolfi (209). - Whelan's previous career-high of five draw controls most recently occured at Johns Hopkins on March 10, 2018. - Tierney's three caused turnovers marked a new season-high for the rookie.
