HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team defeated Harvard, 15-11, Saturday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field. The win keeps the Big Green (6-3) perfect in Ivy League play at 3-0 this season, while the Crimson (5-5) drop to 1-2 in conference play. Ellie Carson led the way with four goals, while Kellen D'Alleva continued her career season with seven points thanks to five assists. Elizabeth Mastrio and Kierra Sweeney also added three goals apiece. "I was very inspired by our play today all over the field," head coach Danielle Spencer said. "So many players stepped up in different ways to help us win." Thanks to her five assists, D'Alleva moved into seventh at Dartmouth for helpers in a single season with 26 so far in 2019. Jen Greene set the record of 39 in 1998. Early on, it seemed like the visiting Crimson would come in and make some noise as they held leads of 3-2 and 5-3 in the opening 10 minutes. However, the Harvard advantage was short-lived as a 7-0 run in the final 18:39 of the first half gave the Green a lead they would never relinquish. Another goal to open the second period pushed the lead to six, the biggest of the afternoon. The Crimson would score six times in the second half, one more than the home team, but it wasn't enough as Dartmouth won its fifth straight game and its third Ancient Eight contest of 2019. Last year's Ivy League Goalkeeper of the Year Kiera Vrindten returned to the cage after two weeks and stopped eight shots to earn the win. Grace Rotondo stopped eight for Harvard, but allowed 15 and was saddled with the loss. Senior captain Kathryn Giroux continues to be a force in the midfield, picking up 13 draw controls and helping give the Big Green continued possessions throughout. For her career, she has 340 thanks to 82 this year, already the third-best single-season mark in program history behind her two best seasons of 133 and 108 from each of the last two campaigns. Emma Lesko had a team-high three ground balls, the difference in Dartmouth's 14-11 edge. Keeley MacAfee led Harvard with four goals, while three other players had two each. Nicole Baiocco had three helpers. The four-game homestand continues Tuesday when the Big Green host UConn in a game set for 3 p.m.
