Grace Griffin posted a career-high eight points (four goals, career-best four assists) and Hannah Leubecker scored seven goals for the second time this season to lead the No. 8 Maryland women's lacrosse team to a 14-9 win over Ohio State on Thursday afternoon. "Good win for us, proud of our girls for their performance tonight," said head coach Cathy Reese. "It was nice to be back at home and have some fans here. We learned and grew a lot as a team today, which is what we're asking for as we go through the season. Great games from Grace Griffin and Hannah Leubecker and Lizzie Colson was all over the place today, coming up with draw controls, groundballs and caused turnovers. Overall, good effort and now we have to turn around and play this team again on Saturday." In addition to Griffin and Leubecker's star-studded performances, Lizzie Colson had a sensational game on defense, filling up the stat sheet with eight draw controls, five groundballs and four caused turnovers, tying her career-high in groundballs and caused turnovers. Colson now has 16 caused turnovers and 15 groundballs on the season, tallying at least two caused turnovers in each game. Tori Baretta also shined defensively, posting a career-high three groundballs and two caused turnovers. G. Griffin led the charge in the first half, scoring five goals and tallying an assist while Leubecker picked it up in the second half, scoring five straight goals for Maryland to lead the Terps offensively. The Terps led 8-2 in the game before Ohio State scored four straight to end the half. Brindi Griffin started the second half off with a goal for the Terps off a G. Griffin assist before Leubecker scored the next five. Maryland (4-1) will take on Ohio State (1-6) again on Saturday at noon at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
