The No. 18 Dartmouth women's lacrosse team is not lacking scoring early on in the season as demonstrated by another potent offensive outburst on Saturday. This time, it was a 16-8 win in the 2020 home opener against visiting Boston University at Scully-Fahey Field. Leading the way for the Big Green (2-0) was senior Katie Bourque as she had career highs with five goals and seven points in the win. Bourque added a game-high seven draw controls as well, two shy of her single-game best mark. Fellow senior Sophia Turchetta notched a hat trick, while three others found the back of the net twice. Classmate Tori Chanenchuk had four points on a goal and a game-high three assists. The Big Green jumped out to a 4-0 lead just over 10 minutes into the game. The Terriers (2-2) chipped away at the deficit, cutting it to a 4-3 game and then 6-5 with 4:55 remaining in the opening half. But the home team scored the final two goals of the frame and then the first four out of intermission to make it a 12-5 game. The way the Dartmouth defense played on Saturday a seven-goal second half deficit seemed all but insurmountable. The home team caused 11 turnovers and held BU to just four free-position shots, of which it only scored once. Lexi Lewis was the top player for the visitors, scoring three times, while Kailey Conry had three assists. Dartmouth held the Terriers to just eight goals in the game, 14 fewer than they had in their most recent outing. Claire Marshall, Ellie Carson and Veta Meyer were the trio who pounded the net twice in the game for the Green and White, while rookie Mimi Lazore notched the first goal of her career just before halftime. Senior goalkeeper Kiera Vrindten needed to make just four saves in the win as the home team held a 35-18 edge in total shot attempts. Dartmouth starts league play next Saturday when it travels to Brown to take on the Bears at 1 p.m. The game will be carried live on ESPN+.
