NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Highlighted by another record-setting day from senior attacker Izzy Nixon, the Yale women's lacrosse team beat Canisius 17-7 Sunday afternoon at Reese Stadium. Nixon got seven draw controls on the day, giving her 297 for her career -- breaking the mark of 295 set by Nicole Daniggelis '16 and tied last weekend by Dartmouth's Kathryn Giroux. The Bulldogs also got six-point games from first-year midfielder Jill Gollob (6-0-6), sophomore midfielder Sam Higgins (1-5-6) and first-year attacker Olivia Penoyer (4-2-6). Senior attacker Addie Zinsner added a hat trick. Yale (4-2, 0-1 Ivy League) put together a dominant first half, outscoring the Golden Griffins 9-2. After Canisius tied the game 1-1 at the 24:24 mark, the Bulldogs did not allow another goal for nearly 24 minutes. By then Gollob already had a hat trick and Zinsner had a pair of goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Amelia Drake stopped seven of the nine shots she saw in the first half, giving way to first year Clare Boone for the second half. After Canisius (0-6, 0-0 MAAC) scored three of the first four goals of the second half Gollob scored two in a row off Higgins assists to spark a 7-1 Yale run that put the game out of reach. Nixon provided one more highlight by getting the draw control after Yale's 13th goal to get to 296, setting the record. Earlier this season Nixon tied Giroux' Ivy League record for draw controls in a game by getting 19 vs. Hartford. In addition to Gollob, Higgins, Penoyer and Zinsner, Yale also got goals from Nixon (1-1-2), first-year attacker Rachel Anderson (1-1-2) and sophomore attacker Isabelle Webster (1-0-1). Sophomore midfielder Olivia Markert had an assist, extending her streak of consecutive games with a point to 17. She also had five draw controls. Yale travels to Brown next Saturday.
