EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon picked up its second win in dominating fashion on Sunday, knocking off Marquette 16-9 at Papé Field. Eight Ducks scored at least one goal, led by Shonly Wallace's five, and six handed out an assist. On the defensive end, Sydney Lawrence led the team with four caused turnovers and Sydnie Soto had a team-high four ground balls. "I love the way our offense shared the ball today," said head coach Chelsea Hoffmann. "We have a ton of offensive threats and distributing the ball has been a focus coming out of our last couple of games. We did a great job of that today." How it Happened: The Ducks and Golden Eagles battled to a draw with just under five minutes left in the first half. Bailey Smith scored two straight goals to put Oregon up 6-4, but Marquette answered quickly to make it 6-6 with 4:46 remaining. Wallace and Hanna Hilcoff regained the lead for Oregon. Wallace scored on an assist from Hilcoff before returning the favor moments later to go up 8-6. Katie Collins scored her fifth goal of the weekend shortly after to send the Ducks into the break with a 9-6 lead. On the other end of the field, Cassidy Eckert had a superb game in the net. After saving one of four shots on goal in the first quarter, the Canadian made 10 saves the rest of the way while holding Marquette scoreless for the final 13:55. The Golden Eagles scored on just one of four free-position opportunities. "Our defensive gameplan and the individual work Cassidy has done outside of practice paid off today," Hoffmann said. "It was great to see it all come together for our defensive unit." The second half was all Oregon. Wallace took just 55 seconds to get her hat trick, finding the back of the net on an assist from Collins. Nakeeya McCardell and Lillian Stump continued the 3-0 run with two goals in 50 seconds, putting Oregon up 11-6. The Ducks put together a few offensive highlights in the final minutes of the game too. Hilcoff completed a hat trick off Lauren Rismani's first collegiate assist and Wallace totaled two more goals in the fourth quarter bring her total to five. "Our offense really came together in a special way today. We saw each other well, which will continue to bring our team success," Wallace said. Notable: Wallace tied her career-high with five goals (3/8/20 at Fresno State) … Lawrence's four caused turnovers were a career-high … Three Ducks had multiple caused turnovers: Lawrence, Smith and Lexie Likins … Hilcoff notched her 14th career hat trick … Collins finished the weekend with seven points (5G, 2A) … The Ducks grabbed 30 ground balls, a season-high … UO had a season-low 12 turnovers. Up Next: Oregon is home for another weekend, taking on California on Friday, March 25 before battling Stanford on Sunday, March 27.
