Three players scored four or more goals to lead #9 Princeton (1-0) to a 17-4 win over Temple lacrosse at home on Saturday afternoon. The Owls (2-1) struggled to get shots on target and with their ball-handling, but looked strong defensively on many of the Tigers' possessions. Keys to the Game > Princeton took 43 total shots to Temple's 16, and put 34 of its shots on the cage to the Owls' nine. > Sophomore Maryn Lowell tied her career high with 17 saves for Temple, playing the complete game in goal. > Temple did well on the draw, getting 11 draw controls to Princeton's 12, but committed 24 turnovers to the Tigers' 14. > Tess D'Orsi scored a game-high five goals for Princeton, while Kyla Sears and Kathryn Hallett added four apiece. Sears also tallied two assists for a game-high six total points. Individual Highlights > Temple senior Nicole Barretta scored her 12th goal of the season and also recorded an assist. > Also scoring for the Owls were senior Kira Gensler, junior Amber Lambeth and sophomore Abby Overman with one goal each. > Senior Haile Houck and sophomore Maddie Gebert notched one assist each. > Sophomore Kara Nakrasius tied for game-high honors with six draw controls, and Lambeth recorded five draws for the Owls. > Barretta and Lowell tallied two caused turnovers each for Temple, who came up with 10 caused turnovers to Princeton's 11. Play-by-Play > The Tigers scored seven straight before the Owls got on the board with 7:49 left in the first half. It was Gensler to notch the first goal with an assist from Houck. > Lambeth from Barretta made it two in a row for Temple, but Princeton got three more before the break to lead 10-2 at halftime. > Princeton got the clock running with three goals to open the second half. > Barretta scored on a free position at 19:05, and after four more Princeton goals, Overman got the last goal of the game on an assist from Gebert with two minutes remaining. Quotable > "Princeton's clearly a very good team, and this was a really good test for where we are right now. Certainly the score is way bigger than I would have like to see, but we definitely got to see a level of lacrosse that's going to allow us to bring our game up. The pressure they put on us allowed our defense to figure some things out and get better today. I think we struggled with our possession skills all over the field, and that's a credit to the speed and tenacity of Princeton. Our offense just got taken out of their offense because of all that pressure leading to less time on our possession clock...Ultimately, our skills weren't sharp enough to handle the speed and physicality of Princeton today, but I do think we learned a ton and I think this game will help us down the stretch." - Temple head coach Bonnie Rosen
