– Nine different Camels posted goals, leading Campbell over Delaware State 17-9 Wednesday at Barker-Lane Stadium. In front of a record home crowd of 2,203, the Camels (2-7) picked up their first home win of 2020, outshooting the Hornets (1-5) 56-18. Campbell put 38 shots on frame and collected 24 ground balls, limiting DSU to just seven pickups. Featuring an 11:00 a.m. start, the Camels hosted more than 2,000 area seventh graders for the matchup, aiming to educate and promote the growing game of lacrosse, including sportsmanship, rules and on-field play, positions, as well as equipment segments during the event, while getting the opportunity to watch a NCAA Division I lacrosse match in person. Campbell's 17 goals marked a season high, while forcing 19 Delaware State turnovers. Megan Matthews' game and career best six points sparked the Camels, posting three goals and three assists with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Julianna Sanchez recorded five points on four goals and an assist, while Ally Heath scored three goals with an assist off the bench. Mackenzie Kolesar tacked on two goals with three ground balls, with Alexis McDaniel registering two assists and a goal. Laura Will added a goal and an assist, while Sam Carey owned five draw controls with a goal. Gwenna Gentle led the Hornets with three goals and an assist, adding a game-high seven draw controls. Nina Dillard also scored twice, while Jasmine West tallied a goal, two ground balls and a caused turnover. In goal, Moe Brown, saved 21 shots. The Camels will wrap up their nonconference schedule on the road at Old Dominion on March 14 before starting Big South play at Winthrop on March 28.
