– Faced with an 11-6 halftime deficit on Saturday afternoon on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium, Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse outscored visiting Quinnipiac, 13-4, in the second half to surge to a 19-15 victory. Dylan Beckwith led the attack with seven points, and Taylor Strough potted five goals for the Stags. With the win, Fairfield improves to 3-1 on the season and 3-0 at home – both of which are the best starts since 2012 for the Stags. Quinnipiac drops to 0-5. "One of our keys was to play one minute, 60 times," said Head Coach Andrew Baxter. "We clearly didn't do that in the first half, but I told the guys at halftime that the great thing is we still have an opportunity to play one minute, 30 times. That's all we can control." One halftime adjustment saw defenseman Jake Tymon at the faceoff X against the Bobcats' Dmitri George. Statistically, Tymon and his teammates came away with just six wins on the draw to Quinnipiac's 13 in the second half, but the Stags kept the Bobcats out of transition, allowing the defense to limit the fast-paced opponents to only two goals apiece in the third and fourth frames. "My role was to take great angles and keep (George) in front of me so we could ride him back into their defensive end, create turnovers, and get the ball to the offense," said Tymon, who had three ground balls and a caused turnover in the defensive midfield. On the offensive side of the field, 11 different Stags contributed to the scoring. Beckwith's output set the pace as the CAA's leading point scorer netted four goals and distributed three assists. In the process, he moved ninth to sixth on the Stags' all-time ledger with 143 career points. This spring, Beckwith has amassed 23 points Strough's five-goal game was his second of the season after also scoring five in the Feb. 15 win over Stony Brook. One of his markers was a man-up goal as Strough has now scored on the EMO in every game this spring. He is one marker behind Beckwith with 13 goals this season. Reigning CAA Rookie of the Week Bryce Ford continued the strong start to his collegiate career with a career-high four points consisting of two goals and two assists. Travis Ford also had a four-point day with two goals and two assists. Charlie Curran entered the mix on attack for the Stags and scored two crucial second-half goals for his first points of 2020. Curran had the goal that started the Fairfield scoring after the intermission and also converted the marker that put the Stags in front for the first time at 14-13 early in the fourth stanza. Patrick Drake added a goal and an assist, and three Stags scored their first career goals: Dean Ford (who also had an assist), Zane Friedt and Lucas Pedersen. A starting defenseman for the Stags, Pedersen's goal came in transition on his first career shot. Brian Reda continues to be the Stags' top facilitator, handing out three assists to run his team-best total to 13 on the year. Kyle Borda capped the scoring with an assist for his first point of 2020. In the cage, James Corasaniti made 14 saves, highlighted by six stops in the fourth quarter as the Stags surged ahead for good. The defense in front of him was highlighted by two caused turnovers and three ground balls for George Elmquist. The man-down unit ceded only one goal on four opportunities for Quinnipiac, including two saves for Corasaniti, a caused turnover for Tymon and a Dean Ford ground ball while a Stag was serving out a penalty. Quinnipiac was led by a five-point performance from Jake Tomsik with four goals and an assist. George finished at 25-for-36 at the faceoff X with 19 ground balls and a pair of goals. Fairfield continues its homestand this Tuesday at 7 p.m. with a visit from LIU. The Sharks are 0-4 on the season following a 14-6 setback this afternoon at Hofstra.
