The No. 15 Dartmouth women's lacrosse moved to 4-0 this season with a statement win against No. 5 Florida Tuesday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field. The Big Green remained unbeaten on the young 2020 campaign thanks to a 13-9 victory against the visiting Gators (4-2) to earn the first win in the all-time series between the two in six meetings. The home team never trailed in the game as timely and diverse scoring added to the lead and crucial saves from senior goalkeeper Kiera Vrindten kept Florida at bay. "That was a great team win, especially given that we really only had two days to prepare for a talented team like Florida," head coach Alex Frank said. "All 35 players bought into the game plan and that shows in the final result. You hope if you can play fast and execute the plan good things are going to happen for your team." Seniors Katie Bourque and Sophia Turchetta each scored four times in the game, with classmate Ellie Carson adding two more. Claire Marshall, Veta Meyer and Maggie O'Gorman all found the back of the net once as well. Dartmouth seemingly had the ball for large chunks of time and dominated possession, despite the fact that the Gators won 14-of-24 draw controls in the game. That was partly due to Vrindten finishing the day with eight saves and playing her best game of the season, helping to hold the fifth-ranked team in the nation to seven goals below their season average coming into the contest. Those saves led to a strong transition game that saw the Green and White converted 18-of-19 clear attempts and sustained offensive zone time. For Bourque, it was another big game for the senior who is the reigning US Lacrosse National Player of the Week. She finished with five points, finding Meyer alone in front for the 11th Dartmouth score that felt like the statement goal in the second half. The home team would add two more in the final 10 minutes as the Gators sought to mount the comeback that never fully came to fruition. Leading the way for the visitors was Shannon Kavanagh — a player who was named the National Player of the Week two Mondays before Bourque — with four goals and five points, while Brianna Harris added a hat trick. Turchetta's four-goal afternoon matched her career and season high set in the opener at UMass. Carson's pair of tallies moved her two closer to the century mark as she seeks to become the 20th player in program history to reach 100 career goals. Bourque now has 92 and is also rapidly approaching the mark.
