In a game of runs, it was host Johns Hopkins that had the final and decisive rally as the Blue Jays scored the final four goals to fuel a 12-10 non-conference win over visiting Delaware in men's lacrosse action at Homewood Field Saturday afternoon. The win is the second straight and fourth in the last five games for the Blue Jays, who improve to 4-3 on the year. Delaware had a two-game winning streak snapped and slips to 6-2. Johns Hopkins led 8-6 after the second of Joey Epstein's two goals on the day with 3:30 left in the third quarter. By the time the Blue Jays scored again, the 'Hens had a 10-8 lead as they needed less than seven minutes to piece together a 4-0 run that gave them a 10-8 lead. Four different players scored during the spree for Delaware with a Joe Eisele tally with 11 seconds left in the third igniting the run, which also included a Tye Kurtz man-down goal. After Dean DiSimone gave the Blue Hens the 10-8 lead with an unassisted strike midway through the final period, the Blue Jays started their game-ending run with 6:35 on the clock when Alex Concannon scored off an assist from Cole Williams. The 10-9 Blue Hen lead held until the 4:01 mark when Williams collected the third of his three assists on a great one more to Kyle Marr, who went low to high from 12 yards to knot things at 10-10. Less than 90 seconds later, junior Forry Smith scored with a flag down off a Marr feed and Marr capped the four-goal run with an extra-man goal 27 seconds later to account for the final scoring. The Blue Jays didn't look like they'd need a late-game rally early on as they sprung out to a 6-2 lead just over 18 minutes into the game. Williams scored twice during the early surge, which also included the first career goal for junior Matt Stagnitta and single strikes from Jack Keogh, Epstein and Brett Baskin. After scoring six times in the first 18:10, the Blue Jays managed just two goals over the next 35:25 and watched the early four-goal lead turn into the 10-8 deficit as the Blue Hens put together an 8-2 run. Kyle Kivinski and Eisele scored back-to-back goals late in the second quarter to slice the deficit to 6-4 and Charlie Kitchen and Eisele tallied the first two goals of the third quarter to pull UD within 7-6 after Marr had scored late in the second quarter to give JHU a 7-4 halftime lead. Epstein's second goal came a little more than four minutes after Eisele's early third-quarter tally to give the Blue Jays the 8-6 lead; the matching four-goal runs that eventually accounted for the 12-10 final score followed. Marr (3g, 2a) and Williams (2g, 3a) combined for 10 points, while sophomore Connor DeSimone dished out a career-best three assists. Sophomore Kyle Prouty was 17-of-23 faceoffs and had a career-high nine ground balls and Ryan Darby totaled 11 saves in goal for the Blue Jays. Eisele scored a game-high four goals and added one assist, while Kitchen (2g, 1a) and Kurtz (1g, 2a) also had multi-point games. Matt DeLuca posted 15 saves in goal for the Blue Hens, who were outshot 46-33 and lost the ground ball battle 32-27. Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday, March 23 when the Blue Jays host Virginia at 6 pm.
