LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A late five-goal run was not enough to overcome an early deficit as University of Louisville lacrosse fell to No. 4 Syracuse 14-7 on Sunday afternoon at UofL Lacrosse Stadium. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 4-7 on the season and 0-3 in ACC play, while the Orange improve to 7-2 and 2-1 in ACC. Syracuse jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes. Alex McNicholas then put Louisville on the board with 21:13 left in the half on a pass from Kayla Marshall to cut the lead to 3-1. Despite forcing the Orange into the nine first half turnovers, Louisville failed to take advantage as they scored just once on nine shots and went into the break at halftime trailing 7-1. After the break, the Orange scored the first five goals to build a 12-1 lead. Tessa Chad put an end to the run, scoring her 32nd goal of the year with 16:34 left in the game. Chad then went on to start the final scoring run for the Cardinals. With eight minutes left, she scored on a pass from Marshall. Hannah Morris then scored three consecutive goals for her first hat trick of the year and Ally Hall scored with four seconds left as Louisville scored the final five goals of the game to make the final score 14-7. Rachel Florek registered six saves on the afternoon. Caroline Blalock grabbed four ground balls and McNicholas won three draw controls to lead the Cardinals. Marshall had a season-high three assists. Louisville forced Syracuse into 16 turnovers, while committing just 13 of their own. But, Syracuse won draw controls 15-6 and the Cardinals finished just 7 of 19 on shot attempts. The Cardinals return to action when they travel to face Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m. ET.
