New Rochelle, NY - After a slow and sloppy start to today's game the Maroon & Gold's offense found their groove scoring nine goals in the second half. Seven Gaels scored in today's win, 13-6, with Brisbin leading the way with five. GAME SUMMARY Elyse Darcy picked up her third win of the season stopping 12 of the 26 shots she faced and only allowing six goals. As a team Iona caused 10 of 22 Pioneer turnovers and picked up 18 groudballs. Junior Caton Brisbin opened the scoring, finding the back of the net in the first two minutes of the game. Both teams would struggle on offense going scoreless for the next 18 minutes until Junior Erin O'Donnell scored her first goal of the season. In those 18 minutes there was a combined 18 turnovers between both teams. Four minutes later Katherine Meyer scored her seventh goal of the season off a beautiful feed from sophomore Megan Collins. With 42 seconds left in the first half Brisbin capitalized on an assist from Madi Kochanek for her second of the game. The second half opened just like the first half with the Gaels scoring on their opening possession with a goal from Sara Stewart assisted by Collins. Sacred Heart finally found the back of the net two minutes to cut the Iona lead to 5-1. Less than a minute later Brisbin scored her third goal of the game for her second hat trick of the season. Iona would continue to dominate as Stewart snuck one past the goalie for her second of the game with 24:45 on the clock. Emma Rippon would score the third unanswered goal for the Maroon & Gold for her second of the season on a free position attempt. The Pioneers would answer right back on their next possession to cut the Iona lead to six. Elyse Darcy would keep them off the board at the 21 minute mark with her fifth save of the game. O'Donnell scored her second of the game to extend the Gael lead to seven. Sacred Heart would make it a six goal game again with 16:41 left in the second half on a free position goal. Brisbin continued to have a game with her fourth of the game. At the 11:50 mark Collins scored her first of the game with an absolute snipe. Sophomore Gabriele Thornton scored the Gaels 12 goal of the game. Starting to sound like a broken record as Brisbin scored her fifth goal of the game from a beautiful pass from freshman Paige Christensen. Sacred Heart added three more goals in the final three minutes but the Maroon & Gold had a commanding lead. NOTABLE NUGGETS Junior Erin O'Donnell scored her first goal of the season. Christensen recorded her first collegiate point with an assist in the final minutes. Sophomore Kati Paavola found her first action of the 2020 season after returning from injury. First time the Gaels have been .500 or better after six games since the 2018 season. Megan Collins now leads the team with eight assists after having two today.
