Behind four goals from junior Taralyn Naslonski and freshman Cassidy Spilis, Rutgers women's lacrosse (3-0) defeated Delaware (0-1), 13-11, on Saturday afternoon at SHI Stadium. The win secured the Scarlet Knights their first 3-0 start since 2010, as Naslonski became the 25th player in program history with 100 career points in the victory over the Blue Hens. Sophomore Camryn Rogers added a hat trick off the bench for RU, while senior captains Samantha Budd and Dakota Pastore contributed scores. On defense, rookie Meghan Ball caused a team-high three turnovers to go along with three ground balls. Freshman Alonna Gliksman earned her third consecutive win in cage for Rutgers with a career-high 13 saves. The Scarlet Knights used a 14-12 advantage on the draw to help down Delaware, as Naslonski and Spilis each secured six to lead the way for RU in that category. Eight of RU's 12 rookies played in the victory, including five in the starting lineup. "I really like how we won the 50-50's today," said head coach Melissa Lehman. "In the beginning, the draw was giving us some problems, but TT Naslonski and Cassidy Spilis both stepped up to help us in that area. Draw controls give you those possessions you need to win the game, and everyone of them counted today against this tough Delaware team." How it Happened • After an early 2-1 deficit, Rutgers produced a 3-0 scoring run to take back control of the game. Redshirt sophomore Monica Dresnin found a cutting Spilis from behind the cage to tie the score, 2-2, at the 16:22 mark in the first half. Naslonski then added her second and third goals of the game, with her free position conversion at 13:18 in the half marked the 100th point of her career and gave the Scarlet Knights a 4-2 lead. • After the Blue Hens got the game within one at 5-4 with just under eight minutes to go, RU closed the first half on a 4-2 run. Spilis netted two goals during the stretch, while a goal from Pastore off a free-position attempt made it 9-5 with three minutes to go. Delaware added a score in the closing minutes of the half as Rutgers entered halftime with a 9-6 lead. • The Blue Hens kept the game close out of the locker room, as a goal from Christine Long made it 10-8 at the 25 minute mark in the half. However, the Scarlet Knights responded with a 4-1 scoring run in an attempt to put the game out of reach. Budd, Naslonski, Rogers, Spilis all scored during the offensive burst that spanned 10 minutes, as an impressive spin move from Spilis resulted in her fourth goal of the afternoon and RU's largest lead of the game at 13-8 with 16:54 to play. • Delaware held Rutgers scoreless in the final 15 minutes of the game and scored three consecutive goals, including an unassisted strike from Kaite Caddigan for a 13-11 game with 6:36 left to play. The Scarlet Knights would hold on in the final minutes for their third consecutive win. Next Up Rutgers hits the road next weekend to face Marist on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Poughkeepsie, New York.
