The Drexel University women's lacrosse team (3-2) cruised past the Merrimack College Warriors (1-5) at Vidas Field on Monday afternoon by a final of 14-6. HIGHLIGHTS * Drexel had a comfortable lead for most of the contest including a 10 or more-goal margin for 29:42 minutes, nearly the entire second half. * Junior Karson Harris scored a game-high three goals in the win. She now has 16 goals on the season and a team-best 21 points. * Junior Colleen Grady tallied a game-high five points behind two goals and tying for a game-high three assists. She is now second on the team with 20 points on the year with an even 10 goals and team-high 10 assists. * A total of eight Dragons notched goals in the victory. Eight different goal scorers came a season high for DU. * Freshmen Allison Drake (1), Alex Wall (2) and Molly Weygand (2) each recorded their first collegiate goals in the win. Wall and Weygand both had two. * Freshman Corinne Bednarik tallied a goal, an assist and three draw controls. * Redshirt junior Lucy Schneidereith scored her team-best 17th goal of the season in the win. * Redshirt senior Marah Hayes won a game-high five draw controls in the effort. * Sophomore Payton Bement (3) and senior Caroline Cummings (2) led Drexel in caused turnovers defensively. Harris and Hayes also each had one. Junior goalie Zoe Bennett (W, 3-2) picked up the victory, playing the first half while making three saves. Freshman goalie Caroline Fristsch played the final 30 minutes, making six stops. GAMEPLAY First Half / Drexel opened the affair on a 6-0 run to take a commanding lead before the midway point of the first half. Harris completed her hat trick as the Dragons ended the half on another 5-0 stretch to get a running clock for the final 3:32 before heading to the locker room, 11-1. Second Half / After 11 goals in the first half, DU only notched three in the final 30 minutes with Merrimack's backup goalie in the cage. Drexel and Merrimack traded goals to begin the half before the Warriors closed the game on a three-goal run in the last five minutes to make the final score seem closer than it really was. Merrimack trimmed it down to a single-digit deficit with 3:50 on the clock as Drexel eventually won, 14-6. BY THE NUMBERS * Drexel's 32 shots and 18 groundballs tied for a season high. The Dragons outshot the Warriors, 32-20. * Draw controls were relatively even with DU edging out the battle, 13-9. * Merrimack was issued three yellow cards to Drexel's two. The Dragons took advantage, scoring two extra-man goals. WHAT'S NEXT Drexel continues its homestand with Colgate on Saturday, March 7 against Colgate and Wednesday, March 11 against UMBC.
