(Titan Field) DETROIT (3/11/2020) -- Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Shrader made a season-high 15 saves and two Titans had hat tricks on Wednesday, but the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team dropped a home game to visiting Jesuit rival Marquette by a 23-12 margin from Titan Field. Shrader was impressive in the contest, playing all 60 minutes and turning aside 10 shots in the first half alone. It was her second start of the season for the Titans (1-7). Senior midfielder Kaitlyn Wandelt had five points on four goals and one assist and junior attacker Kamryn Corraro added three goals for the red, white and blue. Wandelt added a team-high six draw controls. Sophomore midfielder Taryn McManus had two goals and one assist for a three-point afternoon and classmate Elise Harded tallied two goals, four ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers for the Titans. Junior attacker Kristina Ellis posted one goal and one assist for Detroit Mercy, as well. The two teams traded goals early with Marquette scoring first before Wandelt scored her first of four goals. Ellis then answered another Marquette goal, but the Golden Eagles would go on to score the next two to take a 4-2 lead. Harder and Wandelt each added goals on the women-advantage and Corraro scored her first near the 5-minute mark of the first half to cut the deficit to three, 8-5. MU would score the final three goals of the first half as Detroit Mercy trailed at the halftime break, 11-5. The Titans were efficient on their shots in the first half, scoring on five of their seven shots overall (six on goal). The Titans scored on 12 of their 22 shots overall in the contest. Detroit Mercy scored three of the first five goals in the second half with Wandelt finding the back of the net twice and Corraro also scoring, all within the first five minutes of the frame. Taryn McManus scored on a feed from Ellis with 23 minutes left as Detroit Mercy was down just five, 14-9. But it was as close as the Titans would get as MU scored four of the next five goals to take an 18-10 lead. Marquette extended its lead late in the game. Sophomore defender Claire Conway had three ground balls in the game, while seven different players had caused turnovers. Marquette had the advantage in shots, 45-22, and shots on goal, 38-18. The Golden Eagles also held the edge in draw controls (24-13) and ground balls (24-17) in the contest. Detroit Mercy had 15 saves, while Marquette finished with six -- five in the second half. Detroit Mercy was also 3-for-3 on free-position shots.
