A 10-goal fourth quarter lifted the Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team to a 21-12 win over North Central College in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play Wednesday night, April 7. The Titans jump to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in CCIW play with the win, while NCC suffered its first loss of the season and now sits at 6-1 (0-1 CCIW). The Titans used strong first and fourth periods to clip the Cardinals, as IWU saw its 8-1 first-quarter lead erased in the final period. Entering the fourth quarter even at 11-11, the Green and White scored 10 of the games final 11 goals to secure the victory. Junior Charles Hildestad (Carlock, Ill.-St. Viator) got things going on a goal off a pass from sophomore Connor Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview), allowing the Titans to reclaim the lead, 12-11, with 14:25 to play. Senior Nick Ceko (Barrington, Ill.-Barrington), sophomore Carson Kiichle (Vancouver, Wash.-Skyview), Connor Kiichle, and freshman Gage Black (Peoria, Ill.-Dunlap) added goals over the next 10 minutes to put IWU in front, 19-11, as rain poured down at Tucci with 4:28 remaining. North Central scored with 3:52 to go, but goals by Hildestad and junior Paul Mucci (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-Bloomfield Hills) put the game out of reach, 21-12. Connor Kiichle led the Titans with a career-high five goals, while he tied Carson Kiichle and junior Rick Smith (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) for the team-lead with three assists. Carson Kiichle also added three goals. Smith, who scored the 100th goal of his IWU career, tallied two goals, and Hildestad notched four. Senior Jake Simpson (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) finished with two goals, and Ceko, Mucci, and junior Zac Taylor (Brighton, Mich.-Brighton) tallied one piece. Senior Max Bousky (Peoria, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame) went 24-for-31 in faceoffs, and picked up a team-high 19 ground balls. Senior Jory Vance (Milwaukee, Wis.-Wauwatosa East) added five ground balls and tied senior Jesse Prettner (Minneapolis, Minn.-Edina) and freshman Michael Campagna (Arlington Heights, Ill.-St. Viator) for the team-lead with two caused turnovers. In goal, senior Will Harris (Bloomington, Minn.-Holy Angels) picked up the win with 13 saves. The Titans welcome Carthage College to Tucci Stadium Saturday, April 10, for the 1 p.m. start.
