The snow could not stop the John Carroll University Men's Lacrosse Team from finding success against arch-rivals the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders in the game tonight. As the buzzer sounded, the Blue and Gold earned a 21-3 victory over the Purple Raiders. Starting off strong, the Blue Streaks earned a goal less than a minute into play as OAC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week Brendan Whitty found the back of the net on his shot. Matt Berdysiak and Skyler Blake kept their foot on the gas, scoring only a minute apart from one another, making the score 3-0 early in the match. Blake and Berdysiak added their second and third goals, respectively, later in the first quarter, while Cullen Zarek, Ian Flynn, and Kevin Hack recorded one a piece. At the end of the first quarter, the Blue and Gold led the Purple Raiders by seven points. Blake jump started the John Carroll offense in the second quarter with his third goal of the game. This score is recorded as Blake's 75th goal of the season. He added one more goal by the beginning of halftime Bennett Gorman (2) and Berdysiak added more goals for John Carroll, making the halftime score 14-2, in favor of the Blue Streaks. Starting the second half, Mount Union got the first goal, which was retaliated by Hack, keeping the 12 score lead. After this, the Blue and Gold offense stalled, only scoring two more times in the third quarter through Zarek. The fourth quarter saw two new names recorded in the scorebook when Tanner Gill-Snow and Reed Stuhlreyer found the back of the net for the first time this game. Flynn and Blake also contributed two more for the game, making the final score 21-3. As usual, Blake led the way with five goals, followed closely behind by Berdysiak with four, Zarek with three, and Gorman, Hack, and Flynn all contributing two goals. Gorman, Hack, and Alexander Sykas also added three assists for the JCU offense. With this victory, the Blue and Gold increase their season record to 10-1. The Blue Streaks bring it back to University Heights on Saturday, April 24 as they take on the Muskingum University Muskies at 1 p.m.
