BALTIMORE - The 13th-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team recorded its second-straight win over a top-10 team at Ridley Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon, handing No. 8 Penn State a 13-8 loss. Senior Kady Glynn anchored the Greyhounds (2-2 overall) with 12 saves, including making eight in the first half, allowing Loyola to build a 7-3 halftime advantage. Offensively, senior Hannah Powers led all players with six points on four goals and two assists, while sophomore Livy Rosenzweig contributed three goals and two assists for five points. Senior Taylor VanThof tacked on two goals, while junior Emily Cooper, sophomores Elli Kluegel and Sam Fiedler, and freshman Jillian Wilson rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece. VanThof finished with six draw controls to become the second player at Loyola and the third in Patriot League history to win at least 300 career draw controls. With 304 career draw controls, VanThof is 13 shy of breaking her sister Taryn's school record of 318 from 2011-15. For Penn State (3-2), Kayla Brisolari paced the offense with four goals and four draw controls. Maria Auth also contributed two goals and one assist, while Taylor Suplee finished with 11 saves in goal. The Greyhounds won the first four draw controls of the game and cruised to a 4-1 lead by the 11:18 mark, as VanThof, Powers, Cooper and Rosenzweig tallied goals for the Greyhounds. Brisolari then netted back-to-back goals within 22 seconds to pull the Nittany Lions within one, 4-3, at 8:46, but Rosenzweig, Powers and Kluegel struck again and Glynn turned back her eighth shot as time expired to send the Greyhounds into the halftime break with a 7-3 advantage. Penn State netted three of the first four goals out of the break to pull within two, 8-6, with 24:53 to play, but Powers sandwiched a pair of goals around one from the Nittany Lions to stretch Loyola's lead back to three, 10-7, with 20:10 to go. A free position goal by Penn State made it a three-goal game, but the Greyhounds would hold the Nittany Lions scoreless for the final 19:07, while VanThof, Fiedler and Rosenzweig scored to stretch Loyola's lead to five goals for the 13-8 victory. Loyola will head on the road for its next three games, as it travels to No. 23 Towson on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. opening draw. The Greyhounds will then have a week off before traveling to No. 7 Virginia on Wednesday, March 13 and Army West Point on Saturday, March 16.
