In the wild and ever-shifting 2019 Ivy League women's lacrosse race, there are two practical realities: 1) every win is huge and 2) no win is easy. Princeton is trying to take the difficult route to a sixth-straight Ivy League championship, needing for all practical purposes a sweep of the final five regular-season games. Win No. 2 of that run came Saturday afternoon on Sherrerd Field, as Princeton used a balanced offense to defeat Harvard 14-12. The win improved the Tigers to 8-3 overall and came on Senior Day, as the Tigers honored the seven members of the Class of 2019 prior to the game. Princeton also honored its 1994 NCAA championship team on its 25th anniversary and halftime and then after the game. "We know what we have to do," said Princeton head coach Chris Sailer. "We know that every game is a challenge. We got through this one, and now we can look ahead to the next one. That's how focused we have to be as a team." Princeton is now 3-1 in the league and one of four teams who have one league loss. One week after Princeton defeated Dartmouth, the Big Green came back to knock off Penn 15-11 at Franklin Field, handing the Quakers their first league defeat. That, along with Cornell's 10-7 win over Brown, left Dartmouth at 4-1 and Princeton, Penn and Cornell at 3-1. Princeton, by the way, is at Penn Wednesday night in a game that will be televised on ESPNU. Before Princeton could give that game any thought, though, there was the matter of the Crimson, who came into the game needing a win to keep its own Ivy tournament hopes alive. Princeton would never trail, though it was 5-5 late in the first. The Tigers built a 12-7 lead with 18:24 to play, but Harvard pushed hard til the end, scoring three of the final four and pulling within two with 1:34 left. The Tiger offense was extraordinarily balanced, as all 14 goals and eight assists came from six different player. Kyla Sears led the way with three goals and two assists, and then five other players had either three or four points in the game, including a four-goal effort from Tess D'Orsi. "That's one of our strengths," Sailer said. "We can get production from a lot of different players. It looks really sweet when you see many different players who are contributing to the offense. It's not just a matter of having one player carry us. It's an entire team effort." Allie Rogers had three goals and an assist, while Kathyrn Hallett, Elizabeth George and Julia Haney had three point days. Speaking of balance, Princeton had an astonishing 10 players with at least one caused turnover, including Nonie Andersen, who also had 10 draw controls. Alex Argo had two caused turnovers, and eight other players besides Andersen had one each.
