Junior attacker Chris Pickel Jr. (Bayport, N.Y.) scored on a rebound with 16 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team a 9-8 victory over visiting Bryant on Saturday afternoon at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves (3-3) earned the first victory at home in 2019 and snapped a two-game skid, while the Bulldogs (2-4) dropped their third straight contest. Freshman midfielder Layton Harrell (Newtown, Conn.) and Pickel Jr. each posted two goals for the Seawolves, while junior goalkeeper Michael Bollinger (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded a career-best 16 saves in net. QUOTING THE SEAWOLVES Head Coach Jim Nagle "This was a great team win for our guys, especially coming off the gut wrenching loss on Tuesday. To be 3-3 at this point makes us really optimistic moving to the conference season." "Bryant was a gritty, well coached physical team and out guys were up to the challenge today. Hopefully we can take all these lessons learned to this point into league play." HIGHLIGHTS Chris Pickel Jr. scored on a rebound of junior attacker Tom Haun's (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) shot with 16 seconds left in the game to break the 8-8 tie. After Bryant scored three straight goals to open the second quarter to take a 4-2 lead, Stony Brook closed the quarter with three goals of their own and scored a fourth straight in the third quarter that lifted the Seawolves to a 6-4 advantage. Stony Brook led 8-5 with 1:54 left in the third quarter, but Bryant rattled off three straight goals to pull even with 9:25 left in the game.
