Junior goalkeeper Michael Bollinger (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded a career-high 18 saves to lead the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team to a thrilling 12-11 victory over in-state rival St. John's on Tuesday afternoon at DeSilva Memorial Field. Eight different players scored to spread the wealth for the Seawolves (6-4, 2-1 AE) that included junior A/M Chris Pickel Jr.'s (Bayport, N.Y.) third hat trick of the season and a pair of goals from both junior A/M Connor Grippe (Setauket, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Owen Daly (East Rockaway, N.Y.). QUOTING THE SEAWOLVES Head Coach Jim Nagle "St. Johns is an incredibly coached, very tough team and we had are hands full all afternoon. I'm very happy for the guys that they walk away from today with Long Island bragging rights for the year." HIGHLIGHTS The Seawolves collected 33 ground balls in the victory. Stony Brook trailed St. John's 5-3 after the first quarter. The Seawolves' scoring got started by sophomore midfielder Mike McCannell (Orangeville, Ontario), followed by Owen Daly's first goal of the game. Junior attacker Cory VanGinhoven (Fort Mill, N.C.) capped Stony Brook's scoring in the quarter. The Red Storm held a 7-6 lead the halftime. Connor Grippe netted his first goal of the game in the second quarter, while senior LSM Ryland Rees (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) and Chris Pickel Jr. also scored. Stony Brook outscored St. John's 6-3 in the final two quarters, including 3-2 in the third quarter on goals from Chris Pickel Jr., Owen Daly and senior LSM Justin Pugal (Manorville, N.Y.). Fourth quarter goals from Chris Pickel Jr., Connor Grippe and sophomore attacker Jack Walsh (Miller Place, N.Y.) gave Stony Brook the lead. NOTES Michael Bollinger collected a career-high 18 saves and earned his 15th career victory on Tuesday. Sophomore midfielder Patrick Kaschalk (Windsor, Ontario) dished out a pair of assists on Tuesday for his season-high that equaled his career-best. It marked his first multi-assist game of the season and second of his career. He now has four multi-point games this season and 12 for his career. Chris Pickel Jr. recorded his third hat trick of the season and his fourth of his career. He now has scored 40 goals in his career. Mike McCannell had one goal and two assists on Tuesday for his third multi-assist game of the season and his fourth multi-point game of the year. Connor Grippe collected his fourth multi-goal game of the season and sixth of his career. He has also now scored a goal in four straight games. Cory VanGinhoven extended his consecutive goals scored streak to four straight games. Owen Daily netted his first two goals first two of the season to mark his fifth multi-goal game of his career. Jack Walsh extended his streak of consecutive games with an assist to six. ON DECK The Seawolves play their final non-conference game of the regular season on Saturday when Princeton visits Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium at 7 p.m.
