WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's lacrosse team (6-4) downed the UC Davis Aggies (6-6) on Sunday afternoon scoring a season-high 20 goals in the 20-11 victory at Cooper Field. The Hoyas scored early and often and held off an Aggies' momentum shift in the second half to secure the 4-0 win streak on the Hilltop. "It always feels good to get a win. Statistically we dominated a lot of possession, but we weren't very disciplined on how we were shooting today," said Head Coach Ricky Fried. "We need to make sure we're coming out with a higher sense of urgency from the very beginning." Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md. / Roland Park Country School) led the Hoyas with a season-high five goals off of seven shots while Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) notched her fifth hat trick of the season and paced the offence with an additional two assists. Michaela Bruno (Garden City, N.Y. / Garden City), Emily Ehle (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / Christian Brothers Academy), Morgan Ryan (Maplewood, N.J. / Oak Knoll School) and Natalia Lynch (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) rounded out those with a pair of goals in the contest while a total of seven Hoyas tallied scores in the matchup. Georgetown outshot UC Davis 52-24 and forced 17 turnovers while giving up nine of its own. On the draw, GU pulled in 20 draw controls to the Aggies' 13. Senior goalkeeper Haelle Chomo (Naples, Fla. / Barron Collier) notched five saves in the contest while junior goalkeeper Micheline DiNardo (Rye, N.Y. / Rye) picked up two saves in 14:08 minutes of play. The Hoyas opened scoring as Whitehurst converted on the third shot of the game and put away her 14th goal of the season 2:61 into the contest. Three minutes later, the Aggies' leading scorer, Taylor Cuenin converted on a Hoya turnover to even the score. With a high tempo established in the opening minutes, Gebhardt gave GU the lead 30 seconds after Whitehurst controlled the draw. With 21:08 remaining in the half, the Blue & Gray extended the lead to 3-1 as Ryan assisted Caroline Frock (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) for her second tally of the season. The Hoyas pulled ahead and netted three goals in the next five minutes from Bruno, Ryan and Mary Pagano (Short Hills, N.J. / Pingry School) to give GU the 6-1 lead halfway through the first stanza. The Aggies broke the Hoya momentum with 13:16 left to play in the first half as Kate Graham fired a shot past Chomo and cut the lead to four. Lynch and Graham exchanged goals in the following minutes and the score held at 7-3 in favor of the Hoyas until a flurry of activity in the closing minutes advanced the score to 10-4 going into halftime. Whitehurst notched her second and third goals of the day and Lynch tallied her second while Aggies' attacker Amanda Outcalt closed out the half with a goal of her own. UC Davis opened scoring in the second half with a quick goal from Outcalt to cut the Hoya lead in half 10-5 but Gebhardt answered with a goal assisted by Bruno with just one minute gone in the second. Outcalt completed her hat trick on the day in the seventh minute of the half and the Aggies took the momentum as they notched the next two goals to narrow the Hoya lead to three. The three-goal difference would be the closest margin of the half as GU went on a three-goal run with scores from Liza Liotta (Baltimore, Md. / St. Paul's School for Girls), Whitehurst and Ehle until Cuenin notched her third goal with two scores within four minutes to make it 14-10 with 10:35 left to play. Georgetown closed the door on the Aggies with a 5-0 run in the last eight minutes of the half with goals from Gebhardt, Ehle, Ryan, Whitehurst and Celia Walsh (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) to put the Hoyas on top 20-11 after sixty minutes of play. The Hoyas open BIG EAST play on Saturday, March 30 as they travel to Indianapolis to faceoff against the Butler Bulldogs. The opening draw is slated for noon.
