The Jacksonville University women's lacrosse team (1-1) earned a signature win early in this 2020 campaign on Friday night under the lights of D.B. Milne field, never once trailing Pac-12 foe Oregon (1-1) on its way to a 17-10 victory. There was plenty of love to go around for Jenny Kinsey on this Valentine's Day. The sophomore was surgical in collecting seven goals to go with an assist for eight points on the night. This marks the 22nd time in program history that an individual collected at least eight points in a game, unsurprisingly, Kinsey was the last to do it on May 2, 2019. Kinsey's seven goals fall just one shy of her own single-game program record of eight. She joins a list of six others to score seven in a game. Molly Brock, Sarah Elms and Megan Prescott all added a pair of scores while Olivia Alvarez, Alexis Deaken, Hudson Gentile and Lauren Phillips each scored once. Of the six assists handed out on Friday night, only Alvarez contributed multiple with two. Alyssa Arnold and Parker Day were the only individuals to register assists with also tallying a goal. Addy Tysdal and Dayna Martinetto split the game in goal. Tysdal got the start for the second straight game and made three saves while allowing four goals. Martinetto took over in the second half and made four saves against six goals. Tysdal picks up the first win of her JU career. The Dolphins jumped ahead, 3-0 in this one before the fans could settle into their seats. Elms struck first at the 27:28 mark in the first and Gentile followed less than a minute later. Kinsey nabbed her first score of the game with 22:22 to play in the half to push JU ahead 3-0. Oregon scored its first goal at 20:25 but JU answered one with two to make it 5-1 by the 17:11 mark. Some back-and-forth ensued at that point but Jacksonville had the last say of things before the halftime buzzer rang out. Kinsey took a feed from Molly Brock and converted on the run to push her side ahead 7-4 at the break. At that point in the game the Dolphins had already tallied 10 points as a team. The second half was almost all Dolphins. Oregon scored first but JU scored eight of the next nine goals, including a stretch of five straight to push the lead to 15-6 with 12:07 to play. Kinsey scored three of her seven during that five-goal stretch and Deaken capped it with an assist from non-other than Kinsey. Oregon scored four of the last six goals in the game to creep back into it but the lead JU had built proved too large to get out from under. The Dolphins were able to land their first victory in four tries against the Ducks and just their second win against a Pac-12 opponent all-time (Colorado, 02/15/14). Jacksonville will hit the road for the first of just four road trips this season and will visit Detroit on Feb. 23. That match is set to get rolling at 7 p.m.
