Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team hosted Morrisville State in the season opener on Wednesday. Brockport cruised to a 17-6 victory to start the season 1-0, behind Jack Peterson's career-high five goals. Senior Jack Peterson notched a team-high six points on five goals and one assist. Patrick Sheridan also put up strong numbers with a career-high four goals to go with an assist to total five points. Nelson Logan racked up four points on two goals and two assists in his first game with the Green and Gold. Owen VanWie had three points from two goals and one helper. Aidan Long got in the box score with a pair of assists in his first collegiate performance. Aidan Fitzgerald caused a game-high four turnovers and also recorded the first goal of his career on the day. Luke Conway came up with two caused turnovers defensively and scooped up a career-high six ground balls. John Felice made 13 stops in net for Brockport and teammate Cameron Kuzniar made two stops after taking over late in the contest. Felice has now recorded at least 10 saves in three straight games, dating back to last season. It did not take long for the Golden Eagles to draw first blood, as Jack Peterson was assisted by Aidan Fitzgerald less than two minutes into the game. An answer from Morrisville would tie the score up at 1-1 early on. Fitzgerald would get his first career goal just 20 seconds after Morrisville tied the score. Brockport would hold a lead for the rest of the contest. Owen VanWie scored a pair of unassisted goals to help give the squad a 4-2 edge after one quarter. Patrick Sheridan got in on the scoring action in the second, scoring three goals in the period to help extend the Green and Gold lead. Nelson Logan got his first goal of the year and Jack Peterson got his second of the game as well before halftime. Morrisville trailed at halftime, 9-3, as Brockport had control of the contest. Brockport outshot its opponent 27-16 in the first half and committed five fewer turnovers. Although Jack Peterson and Jhovanny Olivares both found the back of the net in the third quarter, the visiting Mustangs were able to match that. They took advantage of a pair of Brockport penalties in the third, with two man-up scores. Brockport remained ahead on the scoreboard, 11-5, heading into the fourth. The final period belonged to the Golden Eagles, as they outscored Morrisville 6-1 in the fourth. Jack Peterson scored twice more to notch his career-high of five goals, while Patrick Sheridan's goal in the fourth also gave him his new career-high of four goals. Nelson Logan, Blake Palozzi, and Rocco Santillo all were able to score as well to help Brockport close out the game. The squad snagged the 11-goal victory to win its third straight home opener in a row. The Golden Eagles are back on their home field
