The NYIT men's lacrosse team put a scare into the top-ranked team in the nation. However, No. 1 Adelphi ultimately rallied for a 16-12 victory against the Bears on Wednesday at President's Stadium. NYIT had raced to a 6-2 lead early in the second quarter on a goal from Jason Sullivan, although the Panthers ultimately pulled even at 7 by halftime. Adelphi built as much as a three-goal lead in the third quarter, but the Bears whittled the deficit to 12-11 on a goal from Lenny Innamorato with 12:46 remaining in the game. The Panthers rattled off the next four goals until Michael Trainor answered with 37.4 seconds remaining. The Panthers won 24 of the first 27 faceoffs en route to improving to 11-0 on the season. The Bears dropped to 2-9. Joseph Duchnowski, Sullivan, Innamorato and Matt Arnone had two goals apiece in the defeat. Brian Jockers made 19 saves. NYIT's challenging schedule continues Saturday when the Bears host third-ranked Mercy at 3 p.m. at President's Stadium in the East Coast Conference opener.
