FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 13, 2019 MEN'S LACROSSE KEEPS POSTSEASON HOPES ALIVE Hawks bury Manhattan, 11-6 FINAL SCORE Monmouth 11 (2-7, 2-3 MAAC) Manhattan 6 (5-7, 1-4 MAAC) WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University men's lacrosse team used a 7-0 run spanning the second and third quarters in an 11-6 victory over visiting Manhattan on Saturday afternoon at Kessler Stadium. The win kept Monmouth in contention for a spot in the MAAC Tournament with two games remaining in the regular season. Facing a 4-1 deficit after the first quarter, Monmouth ripped off seven straight goals and 10 of the next 11 to take control of the game. The Hawks outscored Manhattan 5-0 in the second quarter to take the lead for good. Griffin Figel and Cade Stratton each scored twice, while Brock Anderson completed a hat trick during the 10-1 run. NOTES AND QUOTES "I am really proud of our effort. Our team showed toughness and grit and we battled adversity this week with some injuries to key guys. We played with great energy today and it was probably our best performance of the year, hopefully we can keep it going." - Head Coach Brian Fisher - Monmouth is now 5-1 all-time against Manhattan. - Monmouth won its fifth consecutive game against the Jaspers. - Monmouth improved to 2-3 this season in MAAC play and remains in contention for a spot in the MAAC Tournament. - The win improved Monmouth to 2-2 at home this season. - Monmouth used its eighth different starting lineup combination of the season. - Freshman Ryan Morris made his first-career start on defense for the Hawks. - The Hawks wore their white helmets with white jerseys and midnight blue shorts. NUMBERS CRUNCH - Noah Lode tallied 11 saves in goal for the Hawks, who have held their last two opponents to 11 goals over two games. - Ian Weinberg won 14-of-21 faceoffs, giving him six double-digit faceoff win games in 2019. - Weinberg's 14 faceoff wins set a new career-high for the Monmouth freshman. - Ryan Morris led the Hawks with a career-high with three caused turnovers and Monmouth forced 11 turnovers as a team. - Monmouth went 2-for-4 on man-up opportunities and has four man-up goals in its last two games. - Brock Anderson registered his first-career hat trick and now has eight goals on the season and 13 for his career. - Anderson's effort was his fifth-career multi-goal game. - Griffin Figel equaled his career high with four points, the fifth time he has had four points a game and his second four-point game in a row. - The senior now has 77 career points, with 43 goals and 34 assists. - Cade Stratton scored twice in the game, giving him three multi-goal games this season. Stratton now has seven goals this season. - J.D. Nozemack, Casey Kimmel, David Cormack and Max Brooks each scored once for Monmouth. - Nozemack tallied his third goal of the year, Cormack netted his second goal in as many games and Brooks scored his fifth of the season and seventh career goal. Cormack's goal was his second man-up goal. - Kimmel scored his second man-up goal, his eighth overall goal of the year and 19th career goal. It was his fifth career man-up goal. Six of his eight goals on the season have come against MAAC opponents. UP NEXT Monmouth plays its final road game of the regular season next Saturday at Quinnipiac. The Hawks and Bobcats will meet at 4 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
