The Palm Beach Atlantic men's lacrosse team faced off with the Mocassins of Florida Southern this afternoon at the Rinker Athletic Campus. It was the third game for the 'Fish and the second for the Mocs as Florida Southern came out on top 17-10. It was a high-scoring first quarter between the two sides as PBA's Christopher Tucker got the Sailfish on the board at the 12:44 mark after two FSC goals by Sean Nolan. Ben Justice scored two and Logan Robbins added another as the Sailfish put up four goals in the opening quarter, but they still trailed as the Mocs were able to score seven. PBA outshot the Mocs 13-8 in the opening quarter but FSC goalie Maxwell Freestone made three saves. The faceoff circle has been a problem for the Sailfish early this season and it remained one today as the Mocs were able to win 22-of-31 faceoffs in the game. Tucker scored his second goal of the game and Henry Sloyan scored two in the second quarter as the Mocs were able to hold their three-goal lead into the half, 10-7. The Mocs came out of the half strong, putting the game away by scoring five consecutive goals to open the third quarter. Justice, Zack Figura, and Gunner Gebelein each added a goal in the second half, but the deficit never was less than six after FSC's early second-half run. The Sailfish outshot the Mocs 43-39 for the game but Freestone made 13 saves while PBA goalie Lee Rowden made nine. Defensively, Gunner Gebelein once again led the Sailfish in ground balls with seven while Teagan Hersh forced three turnovers. The Sailfish were 2-for-8 on extra-man opportunities while the Mocs were 1-for-4. The Sailfish forced 27 FSC turnovers while committing just 19 but the difference in the faceoff circle was the biggest difference in the game. The Sailfish drop to 0-4 on the season while the Mocs move to 1-1 with the victory. The Sailfish return to action on April 10 when they travel to face Saint Leo on the road.
