The NYIT men's lacrosse team produced a furious rally after intermission on Saturday afternoon. However, the Bears fell to Bentley, 8-5, in the home opener. NYIT stormed back from a four-goal deficit, evening the score at 5 when Joseph Duchnowski tallied a goal 26 seconds into the fourth quarter. But Bentley answered with the eventual game-winner when Matt Brooks beat goalie Brian Jockers with 12:09 remaining in the game. Jockers, making his first start of the season, had blanked the Falcons for more than 23 minutes since Bentley had grabbed a 5-1 lead in the second quarter. Matt Arnone had a pair of goals and Mike Sofia and Lenny Innamorato also scored in the defeat. Jockers made 16 saves. NYIT dropped to 0-4 on the season. The game began as scheduled at 1 p.m. after several inches of overnight snowfall were cleared in the morning. NYIT had defeated Bentley in overtime last season in Waltham, Mass., on an overtime goal from then-senior Matt Chanenchuk. Chanenchuk was in the stands at President's Stadium on Saturday cheering on his former teammates in the narrow defeat. The Bears will look to get on track when they host Chestnut Hill on Wednesday.
