EMMITSBURG, Md. – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team defeated Mount St. Mary's 13-11 in its first road game of the season on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the No. 20/19 Hoyas improve to 3-1 on the season. Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md. / St. Mary's) led the Blue & Gray with four goals and two assists for six points. Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) and Massimo Bucci (Ithaca, N.Y. / IMG Academy) both added three goals while Robert Clark (Cooksville, Md. / McDonogh) chipped in two goals and two assists for four points. Tucker Gillman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shady Side Academy / Avon Old Farms) added his first career goal while Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga. / Harrison / Mercer) posted a team-high three assists for the second-straight game. Defensively, Chris Brandau (Timonium, Md. / Boys' Latin) earned his first career victory between the pipes with a four-save performance off the bench. He entered the game tied at 9-9 and allowed just two goals in 28:16 of action. Zachary Geddes (Winchester, Mass. / Belmont Hill / Phillips Andover) led all players with eight ground balls while Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y. / Pelham Memorial) was credited with three caused turnovers and six ground balls. James Reilly (Berwyn, Pa. / Conestoga) had a solid day at the 'X', winning 16-of-27 (.592) faceoffs. He added four ground balls and had one assist. Trading goals to open the game, Carraway put the Hoyas on the board at the 12:05 mark courtesy of an assist from Wittenberg. Back-to-back goals from the Mountaineers put GU at a 3-1 deficit, but Bucaro pulled the Blue & Gray within one off an assist from Reilly off the faceoff. Both teams would trade goals down the stretch with two goals from Clark, as MSM took a 5-4 lead after the first quarter. Georgetown scored the first two goals of the second stanza with goals from Bucaro and Carraway to give the Hoyas their first lead of the game at 6-5. Keeping things close, Mount St. Mary's knotted things up at 6-6 on the ensuing possession and both squads matched each other goal-for-goal the rest of the half. Bucci found the back of the net on two of his goals in the frame on consecutive GU goals at the 7:23 and 5:47 marks. Coming out of the break, Georgetown retook the lead less than a minute into the second half on a goal from Gillman. The Mountaineers responded with two goals and held GU scoreless the rest of the frame to lead 10-9 with 15 minutes to play. Georgetown took control in the fourth quarter, outscoring its host 4-1 in the stanza. Bucci opened things up with the first goal of the period to complete his first career hat-trick. Carraway added to the lead just 50 seconds later with a man-up goal before Bucaro netted what would be his third game-winning goal of the season 54 seconds after that. Matt Haggerty led Mount St. Mary's with three goals. Dylan Furnback collected 13 saves in the loss. Georgetown continues its road trek as its travels to take on Hofstra on Saturday, March 2 in Hempstead, New York at 3 p.m.
