N.C. -- Tony Bellotte and Cole Fanzo combined for 11 goals as Catawba topped visiting Walsh 15-6 in men’s lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians even their record at 2-2, while the Cavaliers fall to 0-4. It was Fanzo’s back-to-back goals in less than a minute the put Catawba up 3-1 at the 5:07 mark of the first quarter and the Indians led the rest of the way. A four-goal run, that included a pair of goals from Bellotte, pushed the lead to 7-2 late in the first half. Catawba added four more goals to open the third quarter, three coming from Fanzo as the lead grew to 11-3. Bellotte had four-goal run of his own to close out Catawba’s scoring. The Indians held a 51-25 edge in shots, led 43-30 in ground balls and helped cause 34 turnovers. Robert Morrison assisted on five of Catawba’s goals and scored one. Joey Monfort added two goals, while Jared Richard posted a goal and an assist. Shawn Casebolt went 12-of-24 on face-offs with eight ground balls. Payton Leonard caused four turnovers and scooped up seven ground balls. Kevin Geiger recorded 11 saves in 57 minutes of action. Brent Mitchell had two goals for Walsh. Evan Bradley finished with a goal and two assists. Jake Cieszynski won 13 face-offs and Patrick Cuddihy posted 20 saves. Catawba is at home again on Wednesday, hosting Grove City at 1 p.m.
