After going a perfect 2-0 in a jam-packed last week, the No. 14 UIndy men's lacrosse team (5-1, 5-1 GLVC) took a trip to a neighboring state to take on the Lewis Flyers (2-5, 2-5) on Saturday. Matt Schoeneck would lead the team in points in the Greyhounds' 13-9 win over the Flyers, the junior garnering four from a pair of goals and assists. INS & OUTS The Hounds were able to claim the lead early, Drew Billig's goal in the fourth minute of action would be the start of a game UIndy would never trail in. The first quarter was a defensive stand for both teams, the two programs collected eight saves total in the first quarter alone. After a 2-1 Greyhound lead, the second quarter brought the Hounds' most aggressive segment of the game, shooting 18 times at Lewis' net for four scores. Wyatt Auyer would lead the team with two shots reaching the back in the second period, including capitalizing on a Flyer holding call in a 30-second man-up score. In the 6-3 lead at halftime, UIndy wouldn't cool down their offensive pressure. Their 17 shots in the third quarter would lead to three different Greyhound-scorers, a pair of their four goals coming from Shoeneck. The Hounds would keep this pressure even past the third, the team scored twice in the final minute of the quarter from unassisted goals by Billig and Sam Arfsten. The final quarter was more methodical for UIndy, the No. 14-ranked squad looking to maximize each possession they had. Despite only taking five shots in the contest, the Greyhounds would place three of those shots in the back of the net. All six of those points for the Hounds would be given by a different student-athlete, Kyle Basch registering a point from an assist to Connor O'Brien's lone goal in the contest. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE - Shoeneck's four points totals a season-high for the junior, putting him at 14 on the season. - Basch's eight ground balls and four caused turnovers garner's career-highs in both categories for the Ada, Mich., native. - Austin Barnett's eight saves against the Flyers marks the fourth game of six or more saves this season for the senior goalkeeper. UP NEXT The Greyhounds will prep for a busy next week, facing off against No. 12 Maryville twice in a span of three days. The first of the two meetings will be in St. Louis, Mo., the Hounds putting their skills to the test on Wednesday, March 31 at 3 p.m.
