Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse (2-0) used a dominate 60-minute performance to take down the UMBC Retrievers 20-8 on Wednesday afternoon. Jordan Butler (5g, 3a), Beanie Colson (3g, 1a), Kate Kinsella (3g, 1a), and Alayna Pagnotta (3g) all registered hat tricks in the win. Zoe Hurlburt (2g, 2a), Jordan Groover (2g), and Carly Miller (1g, 2a) each had multi-point games. Jenna Oler came up big with ten saves in net while Kaitlyn Ridenour had two caused turnovers and five draw controls for the Mountaineers. The Mount came ready to play for get-go in today's matchup with the Retrievers as the Mountaineers built a quick 5-0 lead in the first five minutes of play. Butler's second unassisted goal of the goal forced UMBC to call timeout early in the matchup. The Mountaineers would eventually build a seven-goal lead in the first half after Beanie Colson netted her fifth goal of the season. After trading goals for the remainder of the half, the Mount found themselves up 13-6 at the break. The Retrievers made a strong push out of the half and put home two goals in the first minute of the second half. Coach Lauren Skellchock used a quick timeout to re-focus her team and that proved to be vital. After the timeout, the Mount defense did not let up another goal and Oler made seven second half saves. The Mountaineer offense would end the game on a seven-goal run with Kinsella, Hurlburt (2g), Miller, and Butler (2g) all scoring. The 20-8 victory was topped off by freshman Abigail Zeigenfuse who notched her first career collegiate goal to move the Mount to 2-0 in 2020. Courtney Renehan (2g), Zoe Pekins (2g), and Claire Bockstie (2g) all finished with multi-goal games for UMBC (1-2). Lexi Roberts started for the Retrievers in net but was pulled after allowing seven goals in the first nine minutes of play and recording zero saves. Sophie Shucosky came in for relief and made six saves in the loss. The Mount women's lacrosse team will now hit the road for the first time in 2020 to take on Binghamton on Saturday, February 22nd. Game time for the Mountaineers' matchup against the Bearcats is set for 3:00 p.m.
