. The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team saw its four-game win streak snapped Thursday afternoon at the Liberty Lacrosse field, losing to the host Flames 14-13. The loss moves the Colonials to 4-2 on the year. A Kelsey Nelson goal with 43 seconds left helped RMU erase a six-goal first half deficit, however a late free position goal with four seconds left on the clock gave Liberty the win in dramatic fashion. Kelley Flynn and Emilie Kim each recorded hat tricks, while Clio Kerr and Melanie Gandy netted a pair in the loss. Goalkeeper Katelyn Miller made 12 saves for the Colonials in net. Three quick scores put RMU up early against the Flames, as Thursday's contest looked like it could turn into a mirror of Tuesday's 17-5 victory over Radford. Mackenzie Gandy found the back of the net just 1:17 into the opening half, picking up a feed from Clio Kerr to give RMU a lead less than two minutes into the game for the second game in a row. Two more from Emilie Kim and Kelley Flynn on a free position attempt over the next two minutes put the Colonials up 3-0 on just three shots on goal. A quick strike from Liberty cut the lead back down to two, as Flames attacker Anna Keebler scored her team-leading 23rd of the year. A free-position goal less than a minute later made it 3-2 as Leah Ruby pulled the Flames within one. While Clio Kerr was able to restore a two-goal lead courtesy of a Colleen Tifft assist, the Flames had reclaimed much of the momentum lost after their slow start and soon began to dictate the game on their terms, rattling off seven straight unanswered goals to take a commanding 9-4 lead with just over three minutes left in the first half. While Flynn's second was finally able to stop the bleeding and pull RMU back within five, two more quick ones for the Flames including a man-up, free-position goal with one second left on the clock sent them to the sidelines up six goals, 11-5. Adjustments, both in-game and at the half, had been significant factors in RMU's four-game win streak heading into Thursday's showdown in Lynchburg, and getting the Colonials back into things against Liberty was going to require more of the same string pulling from head coach Katrina Silva. After going just 7-17 on clear attempts in the first half, RMU emerged much more clinical in the second, successfully clearing all nine opportunities in the last half of the game. They also managed to tighten up their ball management, conceding just three turnovers in the final 30 minutes after coughing up 20 in the first. An early foul on Liberty set RMU up with a man-up, free-position chance, and Flynn buried it to complete the hat trick two minutes into the half as an opportunistic Colonials squad looked to claw their way back into the game. A defensive stop at the other end that included a big save from Miller led to Kerr's second of the afternoon as RMU shortened the gap back down to four. Despite two more man down goals from Melanie Gandy and Tifft, the Flames continued to answer RMU's pushback with a counter punch of their own. Jenna Joyal's fourth of the game for the Flames two minutes later helped them keep the Colonials at arm's length as the time slowly started to tick away. With time running out, RMU dug deep for one last push, pressing desperately to keep the comeback rolling. Kim continued her impressive sophomore campaign with a huge sequence for the Colonials, scoring twice with RMU up a man to put the Colonials at striking distance within two. Melanie Gandy's second of the day with 6:28 left in regulation made it a one goal game, with the Colonials now tilting the field in their effort to bring RMU all the way back. Despite a heroic comeback effort that saw Kelsey Nelson tie things up with 47 seconds to go, the Flames would have the last laugh when Grace Feltcher scored off a free-position shot with four seconds left in regulation to steal the win. Despite out-scoring the Flames 8-3 in the second, the Colonials took their first loss since opening day against Ohio State. RMU returns to action on Wednesday, March 11 when they host Butler University at Joe Walton Stadium.
