The No. 10 UIndy men's lacrosse (3-0) pulled away in the fourth quarter to avoid the upset-minded Lincoln Memorial (2-3) on Saturday afternoon at Key Stadium. Shawn Kimble scored a game-best five points and four goals in the win, including a netter with just two seconds left in the first half. HOW IT HAPPENED The Railsplitters grabbed the early lead before the Greyhounds scored four of the next five goals, with Kimble scoring a pair. UIndy left 4-2 late in the second quarter, but the visitors proved determined, scoring twice to even the game with a minute left in the opening half. With two seconds remaining, Kimble recorded his third goal of the contest to give the Hounds a 5-4 advantage at the break. Once Lincoln Memorial tied the game once again, the UIndy defense locked in and did not allow a goal in 15 minutes of game action. Matthew Johnson scored his second of the game, while Kimble and Robbie Berardi added tallies to stretch the lead to 8-5. After Johnson secured the hat trick, the Railsplitters tacked on two goals, but it was too late for the visitors as the buzzer sounded in favor of the Hounds. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE The Hounds' defense forced 20 turnovers on Saturday, with junior transfer Jordan McKenzie causing four, while scooping up three ground balls. Drew Billig and Erich Wiitala each picked up five grounders in the win. It was the second straight hat trick for Kimble, who now has seven goals on the season after failing to find the back of the net in the season opener. Berardi dominated the faceoff circle, winning 19 of 21 attempts against the Railsplitters. The Greyhounds picked up eight ground balls to add to his goal. UP NEXT UIndy hosts No. 7 Mercyhurst next Saturday at Key Stadium, beginning at 1 p.m. The Greyhounds have lost each of the three contests against the Lakers, with the last coming in 2017.
