– Parker Kump led the No. 6 UIndy men's lacrosse team (5-0, 1-0 GLVC) to a conference-opening victory on Sunday afternoon, scoring six times in the Greyhounds' 14-7 win over the visiting Young Harris Mountain Lions (3-4, 0-1 GLVC). It was the first time the teams met since last season's GLVC championship contest at Key Stadium, in which the Hounds bested the top-seeded Mountain Lions to claim the inaugural league title. HOW IT HAPPENED After Young Harris took an early 2-1 lead, Kump netted his second of the day with just over a minute left in the opening quarter to tie the game. Robbie Berardi cleanly won the next faceoff, leading to a tally by Drew Billig to give the Hounds a lead they would never relinquish. UIndy rattled off five goals in the second quarter, including a pair from freshman Brian Robb. The Greyhounds scored twice with under a minute remaining, and took an 8-3 advantage into halftime. The second half proved no different from the first 30 minutes, as Jack Johnson put himself in the scoring column to give the Hounds the 11-4 lead. Young Harris rattled off three-straight scores midway through the final quarter before Robb and Kump ended the scoring with their third and sixth goals, respectively. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Sunday marked the fourth time in Kump's career the senior has scored at least six goals, which ranks in a tie for third for most scores in a game. The Surrey, British Columbia product currently holds the top spot in the record book, netting eight goals on two separate occasions. Erich Wiitala recorded a season-high five caused turnovers in the, while also scooping up five ground balls. Robbie Berardi was once again dominant inside the face-off circle, winning 22-of-25 attempts against his opposition. As a result, the junior picked up 12 ground balls. In net, Jarod Kimble has now gone four-straight contests stopping at least half of opponent's shots on goal. During that stretch, the Rochester, N.Y. native has posted a 55.4 percent save percentage. UP NEXT The sixth-ranked Hounds will briefly step out of the GLVC play with a road contest at No. 4 Belmont Abbey this coming Thursday. UIndy will then travel down to Alabama Huntsville for a conference battle with the Chargers.
