PITTSBURGH - Duquesne scored six of the final eight goals of an Atlantic 10 contest against visiting La Salle to earn a 19-17 victory over the Explorers on Friday evening at Arthur J. Rooney Field. Michaela Connolly scored two of her game-high six goals during that span while Tina St. Clair netted a pair of her career-best five goals in the run, as the Dukes improved to 3-2 on the season and 2-2 in A-10 play. La Salle fell to 3-6 on the year and 1-3 in conference action with the loss. The Dukes held a 13-11 lead before the Explorers rattled off four straight goals to gain a 15-13 advantage with 18:45 to play in the second half. Connolly responded with two consecutive goals followed by a score by St. Clair to give the lead back to Duquesne at 16-15. La Salle would answer with a score by Annina Iacobucci with 6:28 showing on the clock. That is when the Dukes took advantage of a number of Explorer cards, as Carlee Braverman, St. Clair and Rilee Bradshaw each found the back of the net for Duquesne on the advantage, putting the Dukes ahead 19-16 with 2:36 remaining. La Salle scored with 1:29 to play, but Duquesne was able to hold on to the two-goal lead to secure the A-10 triumph. Maddie Hart finished with three goals and an assist while Braverman added two goals and an assist for the Dukes. Hart finished with eight draw controls and four caused turnovers while Sydney Reed led Duquesne with six ground balls and Kaitlin Rice chipped in five ground balls for the Dukes. Emily O'Donnell and Julianna Hamilton each dished out an assist for Duquesne, as well. The Dukes outshot the Explorers 42-33 in the contest, including a 33-26 edge in shots on goal. Duquesne held a 28-10 advantage in ground balls while the Explorers committed 28 turnovers compared to the Dukes' 10 giveaways. Duquesne jumped out to a 5-1 lead with a pair of goals from Hart with just over 20 minutes to go in the opening frame. La Salle countered with five straight scores and eight of the next 10 goals to gain a 9-7 advantage with 4:28 remaining in the first half. Connolly found the back of the cage before Bradshaw scored two goals in a row to put the Dukes back on top, 10-9. The Explorers would knot the contest at 10 apiece heading into the locker room. La Salle scored the first goal of the second half, when Braverman, St. Clair and Connolly netted three straight for Duquesne to give them the 13-11 lead. NEXT UP Duquesne is back in action on Sunday morning hosting St. Bonaventure at 10 a.m. at Rooney Field.
