Five man-up goals by Stevenson proved to be the difference as the No. 6 Spartans came up short in a 12-11 setback on Saturday in front a spirited home crowd. Records #6 York 2-1 Stevenson 1-1 Statistics Score: Stevenson 12, York 11 Shots: YCP 44, STE 30 Shots on Goal: YCP 23, STE 19 Ground Balls: YCP 45, STE 24 Face-Offs: YCP 12-for-26, STE 14-for-26 Clears: YCP 19-for-20, STE 18-for-28 Man-Up: YCP 0-for-3, STE 5-for-6 Saves: YCP 7, STE 7 Turnovers: YCP 18, STE 21 Penalties: YCP 6-for-3:30, STE 3-for-2:00 How It Happened • The Spartans came out of the gates strong with a 3-0 run to start the game. Dylan Wolf led the attack with the first two tallies, followed by an unassisted goal by Noah Bruno. • After the opening flurry by York, it was Stevenson's turn to light up the board. The Mustangs responded with four unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead late in the first quarter. Penalties aided the Mustang run as they cashed in twice on the man-advantage during their run. York managed to get one back and tie the score, 4-4, at the end of quarter as Brendan O'Sullivan capitalized on a Stevenson turnover with his first of four goals on the day. • Stevenson capitalized again on the man-advantage early in the second quarter, which started a string of three-straight goals by the Mustangs in the quarter. Stevenson scored 1:05 after its first goal, following a York turnover, and tacked on a third with 5:19 left on a second-chance opportunity to take a 7-4 lead into halftime. • The Mustang's man-up unit found success again as Stevenson started the third quarter on the man-advantage. A little over a minute later, an unexpected goal by Spartan goalkeeper Jack Michael ended Stevenson's run of four-straight goals and cut the Spartan deficit to three. • O'Sullivan tallied twice in the third quarter as York cut the deficit to one, but again, penalties got in the way of York's momentum. Stevenson took full advantage once again of the Spartan miscue and tallied a man-up goal late in the third to regain a three-goal lead heading into the fourth quarter. • The Spartans returned to form and ripped off three-straight goals to start the fourth quarter to tie the score, 10-10, with 6:55 left. Stevenson countered with a pair of goals 1:34 apart after killing off a penalty, but York responded 24 seconds later as Eric Ranck buried a shot from the slot as York trailed, 12-11, with 1:33 left in regulation. • Matty Mancuso managed to cause a key turnover which gave York possession with 22 seconds left down one. Unfortunately, the Spartans turned the ball over in their offensive zone and Stevenson managed to bleed out the clock to clinch the upset victory.
