GRANVILLE, Ohio (February 26, 2022) – The No. 19 Denison University men's lacrosse team won its second straight home game by three goals to open the 2022 season, this time defeating Rhodes College 13-10 on another cold Saturday inside Deeds Field-Piper Stadium. After trailing 4-1 to start the game and down 8-6 early in the third quarter, Denison scored four straight to end the third quarter and take the lead for the first time in the game, and then added two more goals in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to take a 12-8 advantage. Similarly to its 9-6 win in its season opener by Baldwin Wallace College last week when Denison outscored the opposition 6-3 in the second half, the Big Red outscored Rhodes 8-3 in the second half this time around to earn the win. Luke Fisher accounted for three goals during Denison's decisive 6-0 run as he finished with five goals and one assist for the game. In two games so far in 2022, Fisher has collected eight goals and nine points. Nate Kay scored both of Denison's goals in the first quarter, and Ethan Tyack scored two goals as well and added one assist while Camden Bowdy finished with one goal and two assists. Faceoff man Davis Cronin was an awesome 20-for-21 on faceoffs while adding six groundballs. Owen O'Neill finished with seven groundballs while Sean Bailey added five. Lastly, both O'Neill and Brooks Crowley had two caused turnovers. In goal, TJ Spahn earned the win after entering in the second quarter with his team down 6-3. Spahn went on to make five of his seven saves in the crucial third quarter. With the win, Denison improves to 2-0 on the season with new head coach Eric Koch, and is now 4-0 all-time against Rhodes, which dropped to 0-4 overall but with three losses against nationally-ranked teams in NCAA Division III. The most recent matchup between the two teams before Saturday's game was an 11-7 win for the Big Red in the third round of the NCAA Tournament back in 2019. Next up, Denison will play on the road for the first time in 2022 as the Big Red head to Lexington, Virginia, to take on the former home for both Coach Koch and Assistant Coach Ryan Rohdee, Washington and Lee University. Game time between the Big Red and the Generals in scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 5.
