HAINES CITY, Fla - The Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team defeated the Alvernia University Golden Wolves 23-9 to end their spring break trip. The Wildcats offense was led by Tyler Drago who set a program record with seven goals and Matt Gelb who also set a program record with eight assists. Both player tied a program record with ten points. Records: Alvernia: 2-2 Johnson & Wales: 1-2 Statistical Leaders: Tyler Drago (JWU): 7 goals, 3 assists Matt Gelb (JWU): 2 goals, 8 assists Andrew Vasile (JWU): 4 goals, 1 assist Of Note: Tyler Drago exploded for four goals in the first quarter, including two in the last two minutes of the first. Matt Gelb included two assists alongside Joe McIntyre's two goals. The second quarter was no different for the Wildcats as they tallied seven goals, six of them were assisted. Drago and Gelb connected on two straight opportunities adding to their first half point totals, nine and six respectively. In the second half the Wildcats scoring continued to pile up, scoring four goals in each quarter. Andrew Vasile scored a man-down to end the third for a career high in goals and points, with four and five. Jackson Fonseca and Zach Bowman each had two goals and one assist for the Golden Wolves. The Wildcats held the advantage in shots, 69-36 and groundballs 46-25. The 23 goals put up by JWU tied a program record, set in 2016 versus Becker. Up Next: Johnson & Wales is on the road Sunday to take on Eastern Connecticut State University at 1 p.m.
