Senior attackman Coby Petau struck for three goals and added a pair of assists to lead the Colorado College men's lacrosse team to a 17-5 victory over Aurora University in its home opener on Sunday afternoon. Makay Hansen and Quinn Eaheart each finished with three goals and an assist, while Jack Haims scored twice in their first games at Washburn Field. All told, the first-year Tigers produced nine goals and four assists. Sophomore attackman Elliot Nelson struck for a pair of goals as CC raced to a 6-0 lead with 5:32 remaining in the first quarter. After Jameson Morrison's man-up tally put the Spartans on the board with 4:03 to play, the Tigers answered with three more tallies to build a 9-1 cushion after 15 minutes. Colorado College added goals by Petau, Luca Lietti and Haims before Aurora's Josh Boyko scored the first of his two-man-up goals with 8:44 to play in the third quarter. Eaheart scored twice and assisted on a Petau goal during a 4-0 run that gave the Tigers a 16-2 lead with 2:05 to go in the third, but Zach Bernstein struck twice as the Spartans responded with three goals to close the gap to 11 with 10:08 remaining in the game. CC's Ross Goldberg scored the final goal of the game on a diving shot at the edge of the crease with 7:58 to play. Senior goaltender Andrew Harwood made nine saves during the first three quarters and left the game with Colorado College leading 16-3. Freshman Pat Mahoney made four saves during the final 15 minutes. Colorado College Standouts Winston Chodnicki won 10 of 14 faceoffs and grabbed four ground balls. John Lawrence produced five ground balls and a caused turnover. Aurora Standouts Jameson Morrison produced a goal and two assists. Justin Gayken and Dominic Diaz each recorded two ground balls and a caused turnover. Game Notes Colorado College improved to 3-0. The Spartans slipped to 1-2. CC finished with a 51-30 advantage in total shots. The Tigers won 21 of 26 faceoffs and had a 29-17 edge in ground balls. Next for the Tigers Colorado College plays host to Otterbein University on Wednesday, March 4, at 3 p.m.
