The tandem of Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse midfielders Anthony Busconi (Watertown, Mass.) and Matt Ward (Shrewsbury, Mass.) combined to score eight goals against the College of Saint Rose on the way to a convincing 19-11 victory over the Golden Knights. Box Score | Senior Day Game Program Saint Anselm concludes the regular season with a 7-6 overall record alongside a mark of 6-5 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. With the victory, the Hawks have clinched a postseason berth for the fourth consecutive season. Even with an Assumption victory over Pace on Wednesday, Saint Anselm will secure the sixth seed with the head-to-head tiebreaker. Busconi finished the game with six points, scoring four goals and two assists (4-2=6). Ward stepped up with four goals and an assist (4-1=5), firing a game-high 12 shots. Sophomore Thomas Mapstone (Andover, Mass.) fired home his first goal of the 2019 season and matched Ward with a team-high six ground balls. Senior Xavier Quinn (Rye, N.H.) chipped in with three goals and two assists for five points (3-2=5) and sophomore Sean Tomaszewski (Arlington, Mass.) logged a hat trick in the third quarter alone, adding an assist in the fourth quarter as well. Senior Patrick Sweeney (North Andover, Mass.) also struck for three goals in the winning effort. Sophomore Griffin Shoemaker (Shirley, Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist with freshman Jack Wells (Melrose, Mass.) posting one assist in the game. Each member of the starting lineup recorded at least one ground ball. With the score deadlocked at one to start the first quarter, Quinn scored back-to-back goals, carrying the ball directly toward goal from the right side each time to put the Hawks ahead for good. Ahead by only one goal, 4-3, with 3:42 to go in the first quarter, the Hawks used a six goal scoring run to build a lead of seven goals, 10-3, with 4:51 left in the first half. Saint Rose scored the game's next four goals to make things interesting, but the Hawks put the game firmly out of reach with six of the game's final seven goals. Senior backstop Nick Richard (Hampstead, N.H.) made 13 saves on 24 shots, earning the victory in goal for the Hawks. The tandem of Matthew Gill and Owen Anzalone made 10 saves for Saint Rose, but allowed 19 goals with Gill drawing the loss in net. The Golden Knights were led by a four goals and an assist by Carter Badour. The Hawks finished with the 58-to-43 edge in shots taken. Both teams posted equal ground ball totals (33-to-33) with Saint Rose's final tally aided by winning 21 of the game's 34 face-offs. Saint Anselm committed only 14 miscues in the contest.
