Powered by graduate student Tommy McPartland (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) recording his 100th career goal, the No. 9 Mercy College men's lacrosse team earned a 17-4 win over RV Georgian Court University on Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks (2-0) start 2-0 for the third straight year and improve to 6-0 all-time against the Lions (2-1) who suffered their first loss of the season. McPartland finished with a goal and two assists and now has 100 career goals in 60 games. He becomes the fifth Maverick to reach the 100-goal milestone. Junior Brady Kearnan (Courtice, Ontario/Newberry College) had a game-high six points on three goals and three assists with four ground balls and senior Dominic Scorcia (Franklin Square, N.Y./Carey) finished with two goals, two assists and six ground balls. Junior Jack Gibbons (North Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) produced three goals, one assist and four ground balls and sophomore TJ Heyder (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) netted three goals. Sophomore Robert Guglielmo (Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) had two goals and senior Marty Shargel (Agoura Hills, Calif./Onondaga CC) recorded one goal and one assist. Graduate student Antonio Rey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) had a game-high 11 ground balls, went 15-for-16 on face-offs and scored a goal. Senior Robert LoRicco (Guilford, Conn./University at Albany) also scored and junior Jack Kipnes (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) had an assist, two caused turnovers and four ground balls. Freshmen Tyler Pjatak (Shelton, Conn./Shelton), Damiano Ferrara (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) and Greg Gibbons (North Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) each added an assist. Junior Tommy Umano (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) played the first 48:30 in goal and made four saves to earn the win. Georgian Court was led by Randy Collins who had a team-high two goals. Austin Geissel played the first 45:51 in goal and made 19 saves to take the loss. The game remained scoreless for nearly 12 minutes until McPartland scored a man-up goal at the 3:14 mark, off an assist from Scorcia, to make it 1-0. Kearnan scored his first goal just four seconds later to make it 2-0 before Gibbons capped off the scoring in the frame to give Mercy a 3-0 lead after one quarter of play. The Mavericks continued to dominate in the second quarter with LoRicco, Scorcia and Heyder scoring goals in the first three minutes of the quarter to make it 6-0. Gibbons netted his second at the 7:46 mark and Kearnan tallied two straight goals to end the quarter, giving Mercy a commanding 9-0 lead at halftime. Rey made it 10-0 after winning the opening face-off in the third quarter and going down the field and scoring. The Lions finally got on the board at the 11:23 mark of the quarter to make it 10-1. However, Gibbons, Heyder and Scorcia ended the quarter with three straight goals to put the Mavericks up 13-1 after three quarters. Guglielmo scored his first goal of the game in the first minute of the fourth quarter to make it 14-1 before Collins scored for the hosts to make it 14-2. Heyder and Shargel fired home back-to-back goals to increase the Mercy lead to 16-2 with 7:53 left. Georgian Court ensued with two straight goals to bring the deficit to 16-4 before Guglielmo concluded the scoring at the 2:25 mark, off an assist from Pjatak, to make it 17-4. Mercy held a 55-19 edge in shots, a 68-23 edge in ground balls and won 19-of-25 face-offs. Head Coach Jordan Levine and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, March 17th when they play at Molloy at 7 p.m.
