The Calvin men's Lacrosse team fell to Albion College 15-8 on Saturday afternoon at Zuidema Field. The Knights came out strong in the first quarter scoring three goals. Two goals came from the hands of senior Max Foster (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Brother Rice) and one from sophomore Jacob Gandara (Santa Clarita, Calif. / West Ranch). The Britons also got on the board in the first quarter to bring the score to a Knights lead at the end of the first 3-1. Early in the second quarter the Britons tallied another goal to cut the Knights lead down to one. Then about halfway through the second the Knights struck again with a goal from Foster to bring the Knights lead back to two goals. Later in the second the Britons scored two unanswered goals to tie the game up 4-4. With about two minutes left to go in the second the Knights got a goal from senior Austin Bontreger (Fishers, Ind. / Heritage Christian) to retake the lead. Soon after the Bontreger goal the Britons scored again to tie the game 5-5. Finally, with about twenty second left to go in the half the Britons found the back of the net once again. The first half concluded with the Knights trailing the Britons 6-5. In the third quarter the Britons scored two more unanswered goals early to quickly take an 8-5 lead. The Knights fought back hard with a goal from junior Griffin Sparling (Novi, Mich. / Novi) with the assist coming from sophomore Noah Boelens (Round Lake, Ill. / Grayslake Central). Then about halfway through the third the Knights got another goal from Griffin Sparling to cut the Britons lead to one goal. The Britons finished the third quarter with another two-goal run to extend their lead back to three goals. At the end of the third the Britons lead the Knights 10-7. In the fourth quarter the Britons started to run away with the game scoring four more goals on the Knights to take a 14-7 lead. With about two minutes left the Knights got one back with a goal from Boelens with the assist from Bontreger. Then with about a minute to go in the game the Britons sealed it with one more goal. The game concluded with a Briton victory over the Knights 15-8. Sophomore Goalie Gerrit Kurtycz (Hudsonville, Mich. / Hudsonville) had a strong game with 25 saves. The Knights were outshot by the Britons 40 to 18. The Knights return to action on Tuesday at Kalamazoo at 7 p.m.
