Harvard at one point scored six unanswered goals covering three quarters and then allowed Providence to score five in a row in the fourth period in what ended in a 9-8 home win for the Crimson. Harvard won its second straight game to run its record to 2-3, while the Friars fell to 2-4. First-year Isaiah Dawson got the Crimson on the scoreboard less than three minutes into the game, but Providence responded with a pair of goals over the next four-plus minutes to take a 2-1 lead. The advantage was short-lived when Nick Loring leveled the score 58 seconds after the Friars' second goal of the game. Loring's successful strike sparked a 4-1 Harvard run at the end of the first quarter, pushing the Crimson to a 5-3 lead. From there, the Harvard defense took centerstage, thwarting every Friar attempt and keeping the visitors off the scoreboard. With the defense in fine form, the Crimson offense received goals from Austin Madronic and Kyle Salvatore in the frame to move in front, 7-3, at halftime. What worked for Harvard in the second quarter, worked in the third as both teams put up identical lines in the box score. Salvatore found the back of the net 57 seconds after the action resumed and Myles Hamm added his fifth goal of the season with 8:20 left. The Crimson defense, meanwhile, pitched another shutout as Harvard took a 9-3 lead into the final 15 minutes. The storyline quickly changed in the fourth quarter as Harvard found itself on its heels. Providence scored five consecutive goals to open the period to get itself to within one goal of the Crimson at 9-8. With 5:16 left in regulation, the Harvard defense returned to form and made consecutive stops in the final minute, keeping the Friars from finding the equalizer. Harvard Highlights During Harvard's 4-1 run at the end of the first quarter, it received goals from Loring, Salvatore and a pair from Nigel Andrews. For Loring, the freshman continued his solid play after he notched three goals in his last outing at Hartford. Andrews and Salvatore each scored a pair of goals during Harvard's 6-0 run, which spanned 25 minutes, 46 seconds. Madronic and Hamm provided the other two goals. The Crimson kept the Friars off the scoreboard for 36 minutes, 15 seconds. Kyle Mullin made a career-high 20 saves, while allowing a season-low eight goals. The 20-save performance was Harvard's first since Robert Shaw had 21 vs. UMass on Feb. 25, 2017. Salvatore tied a career high with three goals. He now has nine points in his last two games after tallying a team-high four vs. the Friars.
