Terrier junior Tim Stucky scored his fourth goal of the game 31 seconds into the first overtime to help the Terrier men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 victory over Alfred St. on Saturday afternoon. The win by Hiram marked the team's fourth straight to open the 2019 season. It marks the first time in the seven-year history of the program that Hiram has started 4-0, and ties the consecutive wins record set by last year's squad. With the two sides having played nearly 59 minutes of action, the Terriers and Pioneers found themselves deadlocked at 8-8 as Alfred State's Joe Johnson scored his third goal of the game to knot the contest. On the ensuing faceoff, senior Alex Meehan came through with a clutch win (his 16th faceoff win of the game) to give the Terriers the final possession. Jaret Walland's shot with under 10 seconds remaining, was saved by the Pioneers goal keeper, and the contest found its way into overtime. Meehan once again came through in the clutch in overtime, taking the win on what proved to be the only faceoff of the frame. With Hiram controlling the possession, Terrier coach Brian Jenkins called Hiram's last timeout to set up the offense. The Terriers worked the ball around quickly, setting up Stucky for the game-winning tally: GAME WINNER! Here is Stucky's overtime goal as Hiram upends Alfred St. 9-8. (Yes...he did it with the backhand ). The goal was Stucky's fourth of the game, solidifying him as our #TerrierOfTheNight #RingIT pic.twitter.com/eobgJ8SJy1 — Hiram Athletics (@Hiram_Athletics) March 9, 2019 For the second-straight contest, the Terriers found themselves playing from behind as the Pioneers collected the first five goals of the matchup over the opening 12 minutes. Hiram finally got themselves on the board with 2:46 to play in the frame, as Jonah Austin scored his fifth goal of the season. Stucky then found the net off an assist by Justin Dionne with one minute to play in the quarter. The Terriers would pull closer with just 29 seconds remaining in the frame, as Dionne picked up his first goal on an assist from Jaret Walland, closing out the first quarter with Alfred State leading 5-3. In the second, the two sides locked down defensively. Walland scored his first of the game off an assist by Macrus McNeal with 14:36 left in the half, but that would prove to be the only goal of the quarter, and Hiram went into the break trailing 5-4. Walland also opened the scoring in the second half, getting an unassisted goal to knot the game at 5-5. The second goal gave Jaret 11 on the season, giving him a new career high. Four minutes later, the Terriers would take control with a man-advantage as Gage St. Leon assisted on Stucky's second of the afternoon to give Hiram a 6-5 lead. The performance marked the fourth-straight game in which Hiram has scored at least a six-goal run. Alfred St. would not go away, however, as the Pioneers tied the game just one minute later on a tally by AJ Soto. They would then take a 7-6 advantage as Johnson tallied a short-handed goal. Hiram would re-take the lead with back-to-back goals by Austin and Stucky to open the fourth quarter. Johnson then sent the game into overtime, where Stucky would give the Terriers the win with his fourth goal of the game. The multi-goal game was the fourth-straight for Stucky to open the season. He finished with four points on seven shots-on-goal. Austin and Walland each posted a pair of goals and an assist, while Dionne also tallied three points (1g/2a). Meehan finished 17-of-20 in faceoffs, helping Hiram control the circle, 18-3. The senior has been nothing but consistent during the four-game winning streak, winning over 82% of his faceoffs. When asked about his face-off specialist, Jenkins had this to say: Head Coach Brian Jenkins talking about the performance of face-off man Alex Meehan following Hiram's 9-8 OT win over Alfred St. Meehan finished 17-20 in the circle in the win. The trip will start with a tilt against the Bison of Bethany College in West Virginia on March 13. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start
