The Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team built a six-point first half lead and never looked back as it rolled to a 12-7 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory over visiting Wilkes University.
It was the last of a three-game home stand for the Aggies who improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in league play while the Colonels fell to 1-6 and 1-4 in the MAC Freedom.
Dylan Brasch needed just 121 seconds to open the scoring for DelVal as he received a pass from Brett Zielger and wired it home. Less than a minute later, Ben Napieralski potted his 11th of the season to make it a 2-0 game.
The Aggies outscored the visitors, 8-2, in the first half to take a commanding lead at the break. Napieralski had four points in the first half on three goals and an assist and Ziegler had a three-point half to pace the squad.
In the second half, Brandon Keller scored two in a span of 30 seconds including a man-up tally to give DelVal its largest lead of the game at 10-2.
The Colonels chipped away with a 4-1 run to close the third quarter behind a pair of tallies from Colby Opromolla, but the Aggies held them to one goal in the fourth quarter and Napieralski scored his fourth of the game to secure the 12-7 win.
Napieralski led all players with five points on four goals and an assist. Rafferty, Waibel, and Ziegler each finished with three points while Brasch and Keller netted two goals apiece. Sean Mylod had a game-high 12 ground balls to go with three caused turnovers while his running mate, Luke Kelchner led all players with seven caused turnovers with five ground balls. Jim Murphy earned the win in goal and made seven saves.
On the other end, Opromolla had two goals and two assists for four points and Ethan Weaver followed with a three-point effort. Lorenzo finished with two goals and two other players got on the board. Jamison Shaw won 12-of-18 faceoffs and grabbed six ground balls while keeper Daniel Cox made 22 saves and added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
DelVal has four more games remaining in the regular season, all MAC Freedom contests, beginning with Misericordia on the road this Saturday at 1 p.m.
