Down, 10-8, with just over 20 minutes remaining in Saturday's game with Dartmouth, the University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team outscored the Big Green 5-1 down the stretch—including the last three goals in the game's final 7:36—to grab a 13-11 win at Scully-Fahey Field. In a battle between the last two teams unbeaten in Ivy League play, the Quakers (9-2, 3-0 Ivy) got a leg up in the standings with Saturday's victory. Dartmouth (7-2, 3-1) saw its seven-game win streak snapped and fell in Ancient Eight play for the first time this season. Freshman Zoe Belodeau led Penn's offense with four goals and two assists for six points. In the process, she set the program record for points by a freshman, her 46 this season already surpassing the previous mark of 45 set by Erin Brennan in 2009. Belodeau's 20 assists are tied for tops among freshman players at Penn with Sherry Marcantonio, who had 20 way back in 1980. Perhaps more important was when Belodeau got her points. She figured in four of Penn's final five goals, scoring three of them including the last two which broke an 11-11 game in the final six minutes. Erin Barry and Caroline Cummings scored three times each on Saturday, while Emily Rogers-Healion had a goal and three assists. Gabby Rosenzweig tallied three points (1g, 2a). Penn went up 2-0 early on goals by Alex Condon and Barry, both assisted by Rogers-Healion, but Dartmouth scored four of the next five goals to take a 4-3 lead. Cummings and Belodeau scored 1:16 apart midway through the first half to give Penn a 5-4 lead, but Dartmouth reeled off four unanswered over a 10-minute span to take an 8-5 lead. Penn got one of those back in the dying moments of the half, when Barry scored unassisted with just two seconds left on the lock to send the teams to the break with Dartmouth up, 8-6. Rosenzweig and Rogers-Healion scored unassisted goals just 1:10 apart early in the second to tie the score at 8-8, but Dartmouth scored twice in a 1:20 span to go back up by two goals. Belodeau made it a 10-9 game with 20:50 left off a Chrissy Corcoran feed, and then nearly seven minutes went by before Cummings finished a Belodeau feed to make it 10-10 with 14:21 to play. Katie Bourque put Dartmouth up one final time with 11:33 left, but four minutes later Barry tied it up on a free-position shot. That set the stage for Belodeau, the precocious freshman scoring with 6:19 left off a Rogers-Healion feed and then icing the game with 2:40 left off a Rosenzweig assist. Mikaila Cheeseman had six saves for Penn, while her counterpart at Dartmouth, Kiera Vrindten, had 13 as the Quakers outshot the Big Green, 34-26. Up Next Penn is at home next Saturday, hosting Columbia at noon. That game is the first half of a doubleheader, to be followed by a men's game with Harvard, and it will be Alumni Day at Franklin Field for both programs.
