Senior Mike Scrafano's goal with 2:30 remaining in the game proved to be the game-winner, as the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team topped Moravian, 14-13, in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening. With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 2-1 overall and in league play, while the Greyhounds fall to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the Landmark. Scrafano (3 G, 2 A) and junior Nick Cost (5 A) led the way for Etown with five points each. Cost's five assists ties him for third all-time in a single game in program history. Junior Owen Yake tallied a game-high four goals while junior Alex Kilgour registered a career-high four points (3 G 1 A). Junior Griffin LeBlond paced the Moravian attack, scoring a team-high three goals to go with two assists. Classmate Connor James was second on the team with four points (2 G, 2 A). The Blue Jays jumped out to an early two-goal advantage as junior Micah Ballew netted the first goal of the game followed by a strike by Scrafano with 11:12 remaining in the first quarter. The Greyhounds clawed back from the early hole, tying the game at two, three, and four before senior Thomas Palen collected a pass from Cost and rifled home his sixth goal of the season, giving Etown the one-goal advantage (5-4) at the end of the first quarter. Holding the momentum, the Blue Jays continued their run at the start of the second period, rattling off three straight goals. Palen hooked up with Cost again for the first tally followed by Yake and then sophomore Grady Meredith's goal made the score 8-4 with just under nine minutes remaining in the half. Moravian however stopped the bleeding with three straight goals to end the opening stanza as Etown took an 8-7 lead into the intermission. After the Greyhounds tied the game to start the third quarter, Etown went a 3-1 run to push its lead back to three (11-8). Scrafano capped off the rally with a man-up goal from Cost. The final quarter was a battle between the two teams as Moravian managed to tie the score at 12 and then 13. The Blue Jays found the game-winner with 2:30 remaining after a successful clear. Kilgour worked down the right side and then found Scrafano curling around the front of the goal for the final tally of the game.
