The Haverford College men's lacrosse team opened its 2020 season at home against defending national champion Cabrini on Swan Field Saturday. Playing their opener against each other for the eighth straight year, it was the Cavaliers (1-0) that proved once again they will be a force to be reckoned with as they came away with a 14-2 victory over the Fords (0-1). Brian Geffroy scored both of Haverford's goals while Wyatt Feinberg provided the assists on both of those tallies. Geffroy's two goals highlighted an overall strong outing for the Haverford junior as he took a team-high seven shots, tied for the team lead with five ground balls, and caused a turnover. Ethan Donlon made 14 saves against the vaunted Cabrini attack and also scooped up five ground balls from inside the crease. Six different players tallied a pair of goals for the Cavaliers while Jake Klein dished out four helpers in addition to his scoring. The Cavaliers were strong from the opening whistle as they scored the only six goals of the opening quarter despite six saves from Donlon. They eventually led 8-0 before Geffroy converted on a man-up chance with 6:20 remaining in the opening half. Geffroy later closed the first half scoring with just over a minute to go, making the score 9-2 Cabrini after 30 minutes. Cabrini's defense took over in the second half as it shut down the Fords during the eventual 14-2 victory and needed to make just one save over the final 30 minutes. Matt Nestler got the start in the crease for Cabrini and made seven saves to record the win before Matt Sageder took over for the remaining 30 minutes. Haverford had a strong showing at the face-off X with Nate Ruhl winning nine of the 18 face-offs he was responsible for while Gabe Durso took over for one of those restarts. Ten different players collected multiple ground balls for the Fords as Gabe Moon and Jacob Shiff also collected three loose possessions. Haverford also caused 10 turnovers with Max Elliott, Gabe Moon, and Colby Ferrigno creating two takeaways. Men's lacrosse will have a chance to rebound quickly as the Fords return home this coming Wednesday for a 4 p.m. opening face-off against Scranton. After back-to-back home games to start the 2020 campaign, Haverford will make its first road trip of the season with a quick journey over to Eastern next Saturday.
